My favorite anecdote along these lines is about Samuel Howe, who volunteered as a medic in the Greek War while only knowing Ancient Greek and who claimed that the first words in modern Greek he learned were "What a beautiful boy!" because he heard it from the men constantly.

It cannot be understated how much the internet owe James Rolfe all the acknowledgement in the world. He basically made it possible for people to make entire careers on the internet. The fact that Youtube is doing NOTHING to highlight his achievements, is honestly demoralizing.
