Earlier this week in Belgium in the Haller Forest the bluebells were in full bloom. Light and darkness, fresh green and a nice blanket of fog made the atmosphere so dreamy.

This got way more likes than I expected so I feel obliged to mention that Samuel Howe was a truly singular guy in US history. A philhellene, education reformer, and abolitionist who taught Laura Bridgeman to read and funded John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry!

My favorite anecdote along these lines is about Samuel Howe, who volunteered as a medic in the Greek War while only knowing Ancient Greek and who claimed that the first words in modern Greek he learned were "What a beautiful boy!" because he heard it from the men constantly.
