@thecavemommy My wife and I are turning 50 this year and lamenting the fact that none of our 4 children seem to feel any sense of urgency to make us in-laws, much less grandparents, at this point…

So news story on FB about how Candace Cameron Bure’s daughter is pregnant (at 27) and Candace is gonna be a grandma at age 50. Comments are like “that’s so young to be a grandma! I wouldn’t wanna be a grandma at 50! That’s what she gets for having her daughter at 23!” Um WHAT?! 50 is a very normal grandma age. Meanwhile my husband is out here like “Not that I want our son to have a kid before he’s ready - but if he has his first at 21 like I did, I’ll be a grandpa at 42! How cool would that be!” 😂😂😂😂

@CTrefugees That was only one of many things I mentioned. The mere fact of confessing even unrelated sins has a buoying effect on the soul and the spirit. If you dismiss this, that is something I would suggest you do more study on, with an open mind and heart.

@Catholic_Gent1 Those who are depressed do not always have some unconfessed sub-component of self hatred. It is confused and inappropriate to suggest that they always do.

For the people who suggest confession for psychological issues, especially severe depression, what exactly am I supposed to confess? For instance, let's say that I have clinical depression & some kind of abuse based trauma. What am I supposed to confess? The sins of my abuser?

A person I know very well was sexually abused as a child by a relative. There was nothing sinful there to confess to a priest, this was something inflicted on her. After hearing her story, I asked her if she had ever mentioned this during confession. Of course she had not, and asked why she would. Have you ever allowed this to move you to anger? To wish misfortune on the person who did this to you? To hate yourself for being defiled in this way? Not only are you carrying the trauma of that moment with you but you also carry the weight of how it has affected you, the choices you’ve made as a result of that trauma, and how it has damaged your relationship with God. I told her that these things, the byproducts of that trauma, all add to the burden she was carrying. A thorough examination of her conscience will reveal the ways that abuse has caused her to fail to be the person God created her to be. Asking for forgiveness for those times when she has fallen short and for the grace to bear the cross that was forced upon her by her relative is a first step in lightening that burden. Now, for those who need it therapy can also be beneficial, and medication has its role to play as well. It is reckless to suggest all anyone needs is confession to remove the scars of trauma, depression, or a diagnosed chemical imbalance. It is also reckless for those who understand the value of repentance and grace imparted through the Sacrament of Reconciliation to not suggesting that this be a key component in the healing process.

I'm asking what should be confessed with respect of the depression not what everybody should confess in general. In depression there is no sin to confess. If you have already been absolved and you still have depression there is no sin for you to confess and it is confused even inappropriate to suggest to someone who is reporting serious depression that they go to confession for it because it is not a sin to be depressed.

@CTrefugees You asked what you should confess. I told you. I’m sorry my answer didn’t fit whatever narrative you’re trying to construct here.

@JanetET115 @Xtopher_Uzo Dance is a form of worship. Not all dance is worship. Song is a form of worship. Not all song is worship. Prayer is a form of worship. Not all prayer is worship. This is how it works. Intent matters. Form matters.

This protestant brother just agreed that worship is different from prayers. Cool. So when Catholics ask Saints to pray for us, why do y'all still call it worship? Protestants should choose a struggle 😂

@Xtopher_Uzo that was worship not prayer!

The real solution is to stop arguing over liturgies and start encouraging and supporting families to properly catechize their children in the faith. Strong family catechesis creates the fertile soil that the Holy Spirit cultivates into vocations. Relying on volunteer catechists through parish formation program is a bandaid on a mortal wound.

@QohelethsWisdom @KhanFormBias You literally said there was nothing intrinsically wrong. And now you say there’s nothing intrinsically irreverent. So if it’s not irreverent, and it’s not wrong, why did you post this under a picture of an elderly woman distributing the Eucharist again?

Oh, I recognize the quote. The Church’s position has evolved over time on this issue, as it has with many issues of discipline. I’m not saying that there are not instances of irreverence currently, any more than I would state that there were instances of irreverence pre-Vatican II. What is intrinsically irreverent in the action of an elderly woman serving in the capacity of an EEMHC?

@Catholic_Gent1 @KhanFormBias I’m literally just quoting St Thomas on this point. You are collapsing the distinction between reception and distribution. I am not arguing that the practice is intrinsically wrong, but it is clearly being carried out irreverently within the NO.

What of our tongue, or hands as the Church allows, as we receive the Eucharist? At what point does it cease to be blasphemy for unconsecrated material to touch the Eucharist? Let’s be real. Christ healed the leper with His touch. He did not become unclean by the touch of the unclean but rather made him clean. The Eucharist is Christ, no less Christ than the man who walked the earth 2000 years ago. The consecrated hands of the priest effect the consecration of the Eucharist from bread and wine into flesh and blood. However, the hands of the Eucharistic minister are the hands of a servant, tools in the hands of our God. In your zeal to protect the Body of Christ from desecration you are implying that Christ can be defiled by the simple touch of a woman (or man) of faith. Reverence for the Eucharist is a worthy devotion. That begins in the heart, in the mind, in prayerful contemplation of the mysteries of our faith. Without this, the kneeling, the receiving on the tongue, the implication of scandal at the idea of others not doing so, are all just cleansing the outside of the vessel while neglecting the inside. We should spend more time evangelizing the True Presence among ourselves rather than bickering over external expressions. We should help our brothers and sisters in Christ clean the inside of their vessel rather than focusing on the outside.

@KhanFormBias "I answer that, The dispensing of Christ's body belongs to the priest for three reasons ... Thirdly, because out of reverence towards this sacrament, nothing touches it, but what is consecrated; hence the corporal and the chalice are consecrated, and likewise the priest's hands"

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are that which enables us to act in the name of God and do His will: Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety, Fear of God. The fruits of the Holy Spirit are those attributes that are revealed in those through whom the Holy Spirit moves: joy, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When we employ the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we become that by which the Holy Spirit is known and recognized.

To the Catholics in the building!! What is the difference, or what are the differences between the gift of the Holy Spirit and the fruits of the Holy Spirit? Why are they not the same thing?? (I'm working on something, guys, so I'd need all the inputs I can get from you all). 🙏

@BBGreatMoments The most surprising thing on this list for me is there have only been 11 games in history where a player hit 3 sac flies. I get that the opportunities for 3 in a game are limited, but only 11 in the history of baseball seems insanely low.
