My mom left me this dresser when she died and I can't stop staring at it tonight trying to figure out if I'm about to make the biggest mistake of my life. She kept her yarn in these drawers, all organized by color and weight, and she'd sit right here working on custom crochet doll orders from her online shop. I'd come over after work and she'd be measuring out patterns, her reading glasses sliding down her nose, completely absorbed in getting the proportions exactly right for whatever character someone had requested. I started seeing someone I met on a dating site three weeks ago. First date went well, he came back to my place for coffee, and the second he saw this dresser he said I should either get rid of it or paint it. Just like that, casual as commenting on the weather. Said the wood was too dark and dated for the space. I smiled and said maybe, sure, but the minute he left I sat on my bedroom floor and sobbed for an hour. This dresser holds every memory of watching my mom work, of learning from her, of the quiet afternoons when her hands moved and we didn't need to talk. Now he's texting about our next date and all I can think about is whether painting it would somehow erase her. Would it still be her dresser if it's white or gray instead of this honey pine she polished every Sunday? The logical part of me knows paint doesn't change history, doesn't make her less present in these drawers that still smell faintly of wool and lavender sachets. But there's this other part that feels like he's asking me to sand away the visible proof she existed here. I found this woman on online app who restores vintage furniture and asked her opinion. She said furniture holds the energy of who used it regardless of finish, that sometimes a fresh coat actually honors the piece by keeping it functional and loved instead of relegated to storage. But she also said if painting it feels wrong in my gut, that's my answer. I don't know what I'm going to tell him. I just know I'm not ready to hear someone I barely know tell me what to do with the last physical piece of my mother's creative life that I have left.

I hope @PresidentTrump and the @HouseGOP and @SenateGOP see @ClaytonQuinn’s assessment of why young people seem to be attracted to Mamdani. Clayton and I overlap with some of the same young conservative voters. He is spot on. I saw it on Fa*Bo*. Can I say that on X? Maybe not.

@elonmusk It may be called suicidal empathy now, but it’s codependence on a national scale. With underlying, deep rooted shame and self-rejection.

Western Civilization is doomed, unless the core weakness of suicidal empathy is recognized and actions are taken that are hard, but necessary for survival

@SarahHuckabee Also, have you heard the song Jack Blocker just released extolling Arkansas? I was a little miffed at first cus he’s a Texan, too. But my hubby and I just spent a week camping in your state and I guess if it weren’t for our Texas grandkids, we’d still be there!
