Interested in what the future of Rice growing may look like? Looking to save some irrigation water and see what other farmers have been doing? Then get along to our field day next week at Chris Morsheads, Yarran Park to see farm scale aero-dynamic rice and irrigation automation in action. A chance to have a look at the performance of these techniques and see Topaz and VO71 varieties just before harvest. @JimmyMann29 @soupercocky

15N labelled urea gone onto aerobic rice before next flush to track N20/N2 over an irrigation cycle. Also trying out capturing ammonium volatisation with @IPFertilisers @AgriFuturesAU.

Great year for our high yielding, low water use aerobic rice. Managed to pull off 15.3 t/ha in our commercial trials. Actually, out yielded the traditional DPW ponded rice (14.5 t/ha) with a ~3ML/ha water saving. This was all done on 4th year rice country. Rice back to back to back to back. Its been interesting to see improvements each year with aerobic rice in our commercial scale trails with @soupercocky on this block. Aerobic rice grown 3 consecutive years has yielded 2023 - 11.4 t/ha, 2024 - 13.3 t/ha, 2025 - 15.3 t/ha. Traditional ponded rice 2023 - 11.9 t/ha, 2024 - 13.2, 2025 - 14.5 t/ha. Some improvements seasonal driven and a lot of learning going on to get those aerobic yields humming! This season we used 'beds in bays' which had some big positives. Thanks to #FutureDroughtFund @DAFFgov for funding the initial work on aerobic rice and giving opportunities for innovative practices to combat drought. Its something that's really needed in our irrigation regions. Lastly, big thanks to the Morshead family, whole Amberley Pastoral team, @JimmyMann29 , and @CeRRF_Griffith team for making it all happen. Tracking GHG emissions from Australian rice crops over the season. Drill sown crops emitting 70-80% less methane than traditional ponded crops and automated aerobic crops even less again! Shout out to the young researchers collecting this data -its a marathon @AgriFuturesAU

Always a good sign when you've got earthworms in your cotton growing soils. Just need a bit of warmth now! It's still nippy in the south #soilhealth #sustainablecotton

Some big differences in trafficability seen this year. Aerobic left, ponded right.

Impressive #aerobic #rice yields this year across our commercial trial bays. Our best aerobic rice bay did 14t/ha (one we walked through during field day). Back to Back aerobic rice managed 13.3 t/ha. In comparison traditionally ponded rice did an average of 13.3 t/ha across our commercial trial bays. Each year we have continued to improve aerobic rice yields, all being made possible by irrigation automation #Alfies which do the hard work😎. Massive thanks to @soupercocky family and team for all the effort and accommodating these large scale trials on farm. #FutureDroughtFund @ricegrowers @RiceExtension @AgriFuturesAU @GrowerService @JimmyMann29 @SunRiceFoods

Had a field day to lay a few slotted pipes across waterlogged country in the hope that we can solve production reduction. The unit is in constant action to make sure of the pipe having drainage across the whole topography. 600 to 900 deep.

🙏Thanks to everyone for attending our field day last week. Awesome to see so much grower interest in our #irrigation #automation and #aerobic rice. Now you have seen how easy it is to get started in irrigation automation for rice growing and its power to save you 💰, get more 🛌 and be in two places at once ! please get along to one of our free irrigation automation workshops for rice growers being held after harvest. At these one day workshops we will help get you started automating your own irrigation outlets in a low cost way. Get in touch to lock in your spot. #FutureDroughtFund @ricegrowers @RiceExtension @AgriFuturesAU .

It's on again for 2024! Come and have a look at our #Aerobic Rice and #Irrigation Automation Field Day. Thursday 14th March 6pm. A great opportunity to have a look at aerobic rice crops sxs with traditional ponded rice crops just before harvest kicks off. Insights from irrigator Chris Morshead , agronomist James Mann and researcher John Hornbuckle. Lots of #irrigation #automation technologies showcasing low cost automation of irrigation outlets, diesel pumps and surface fertigation rigs, linked together with simple control sensors. Demonstrations by @CeRRF_Griffith team showing you how simple it is to build your own irrigation outlet automation with low cost wi-fi automation. BBQ to follow. Hope to see you there! 🙏RSVP DM or 0429862920 @ricegrowers @RiceExtension @GrowerService @soupercocky @JimmyMann29

@Stephen75552005 Yes have used the automation #Alfies across a range of overshot tarp inserts. They can also be linked into #wifi float sensors to automatically maintain a water level in ponded rice.
