Did you know we don't just sample for grain moisture?   Throughout the season, we collect a number of different samples for analysis.

Preparation for next season's crop is already underway at RAAPL with beds formed and vetch planted. Everything from soil nutrition and irrigation systems to paddock layouts, play a part in the success of the season and it's never too early to start thinking about it. As we reach the end of harvest and growers start to look ahead to the upcoming season, Rice Extension will share more resources on best preparation practices. Jae, one of our Murray Valley Extension Officers has also been in on the mission to collect samples for analysis the last month. There's been plenty of long, hot days in paddocks taking different types of cuts for the lab to process. Driving around the Riverina you can see the transition of rice crops throughout the season, from the telltale ponded paddocks to vibrant green fields that soon change to golden. A detailed data project, the work of Josh, Alex and Jo informs a lot of the resources we use regularly, including the DPRID Variety Growing Guides and supporting the accuracy of the Dashboard. The results from CY25 were used in combination with previous seasons to build on existing knowledge of rice agronomy to ensure growers have the most up to date and valid data for their own rice crops.
