40 years ago, Acorn's proposed "baby BBC" sounded expensive and uncompetitive (and didn't happen). Meanwhile, Beyond licensed Star Trek and promised "a most significant step in the evolution of the computer game." Unfortunately, Star Trek: The Rebel Universe did not deliver that.

35 years ago, Road Rash roared into the Mean Machines office. It was, of course, an absolute stone cold classic - the first of a legendary series of Mega Drive games that were hugely popular. Indeed, this one was EA's most profitable release yet at the time. Brilliant stuff!

This entire @BBCSport article conveniently forgets the fact that we already had the exact same format for the 1986, 1990 and 1994 World Cups (albeit with 6 groups instead of 12)

@JazRignall I think the first mention I saw in Mean Machines was Champion Edition. So I missed this one. I remember being amazed at how big and detailed the sprites were.

35 years ago, I wrote about an arcade game I'd been obsessively playing for weeks. No other magazine had mentioned it at this point, but I had a hunch that it was going to be big. But never did I realize just how big it was going to be. One of THE games of the 90s, no less!
