@Counteredlogos Well, I would too. I find myself praying non-stop when Celtic play, but Luis de la Fuente suggests it would be unfair to the opposition. Herbert McCabe, on the other hand, says that we may as well ask for what we really want.

@Celtic_First Let's see what happens in the final. Argentina have a statue of Our Lady of Lujàn, patroness of the nation, in the dressing room. 🫡

One of the worst consequences of the Enlightenment upon England is the loss of that very real, very important, very singular, and yes - quite happily irrational - folk-religion instinct to demand of God, with all the force of Moses, that your team wins at the football.

@GerardCarruthe2 @BremenBod Now the police have advised against a public screening of tonight’s game in the city. Mikel Merino is a local lad. Nico Williams was also born there. Mikel Oyarzabal is from Eibar, Unai Simón is from Vitoria and Zubimendi is from San Sebastián. (2)

Quite interested in who the Basques in both Spain and France are supporting tonight? I wonder if they are constantly questioned, shamed and harassed into cheering for Spain and France by the French and Spanish media and their political classes?

@Rokewood Somebody has to be thirty-second-best, Bob. As hopes for it to be Scotland dwindle, you have to consider that whoever qualifies in thirty-second spot won’t, up to this point, have have played very much swashbuckling, avant-garde football.

My only regret here is that AI algorithms & dodgy matchplay stitch-ups are denying the #TartanArmy its traditional sentimental exit experience of heroic-failure final-tie goal difference—where we beat 1 of the favourites 6-5, somebody marries a local, & we win ‘Best Fans’ award🤷🏻‍♂️

Extending as much ‘fairness’ as possible to this arcane system for taking 48 teams to 32, who honestly believes that it would be right or desirable to see this 1-goal lacklustre squad progress in the tournament? & please don’t say the #TartanArmy😵‍💫 bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

¿Aman a Cristo?

@mccaffepj @BBCr4today Lovely to hear the bold Archie Macpherson on the show, though. He was in sparkling form, even if he misremembered the final score when Scotland played Brazil at the 1998 World Cup.

@BBCr4today Thank you for inviting Thomas Heatherwick on to talk about Guadí and the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. I could have listened to him talk about it all day.

Spent Sunday evening at my big sister’s bedside as the priest gave her last rites, then from early morning to evening on Monday as she finally slipped away. Never been keen on the ‘it’s a blessing’ phrase, but watching her ravaged with late stage Alzheimers I now appreciate it.

@JimSpenceDundee @michael_merrick Could be a coincidence, Michael, but you especially may be interested to know that, from the 1990s onwards, if not before, top clubs in Spain were employing full-time qualified teachers to work with players. The boys had left school, but school didn’t leave them.

@michael_merrick I covered Scotland for the Beeb in the 3-1 defeat in Alicante in Oct 2011 in the qualifiers……it was a masterclass. Mesmerising stuff from them.

@AHoran79 Yes. And then ask him why he elbowed big Trusty. And then ask the Motherwell number 12 if he thought a two-handed push in Trusty’s back as the ball came into the box was a good or bad idea.

Goodness! X is rather lively tonight. Everybody and their granny weighing in on the Celtic penalty decision. Rather than questioning referees and VAR, folks might want to ask the Motherwell player what the heck he was playing at putting his hand so high between his head and the ball in the last seconds of the game.
