Despite the Celtics not having an MVP in 40 yrs since Bird won his third in a row, fans can still be proud that in that time they still won 2 titles which prioritized unselfishness. KG sacrificing his offense for Pierce & Ray in 2008 & Tatum co-starring w/ Brown in 2024. Being a team is the Celtics way. Credit to KG, Pierce, Ray, Tatum, & Brown for all sacrificing to win Boston titles, but just giving an extra tip of the hat to KG & Tatum, whose numbers in the regular season (all that is judged for MVP voting) could have easily been much higher (See KG's Wolves MVP numbers or how many 50 pt games Tatum has put up & his scoring numbers when JB was out injured) but they knew that ensuring that their costar teammates felt whole would increase the odds of winning the championship. Pierce (Finals MVP) & Ray's play in the Finals as well as Jaylen's Finals & ECF MVP's made it all worth it. Not to take away from Shai or discount being a league MVP. Just saying being a Celtics player and fan means choosing we over me and the name on the front of the jersey and not the back. Individual honors can be bonuses, but it's all about NBA championship banners. When their careers are over, if Tatum and Brown retire with zero regular season MVP awards it won't matter one bit. If they can retire having won multiple titles in Boston is what will matter.

LeBron James wants the Lakers to woo him & respect (pay) him in order to re-sign but I don’t expect LA to do that, so expect him to sign elsewhere James was a mercenary FA they signed, but he only brought them one Finals appearance in 8 yrs so he’s not going to get the Kobe farewell treatment. The only reason they will try & “respect” him more is bc he & his inner circle will remain power players in the NBA even past his playing days.

There’s a reason the Celtics considered going after Presti when Danny decided to “retire.” Ownership eventually decided to promote Stevens who luckily is still a top 2 GM in the league.

Of course this report can mean many things. 1. Could mean what it says & they aren’t pursuing Giannis hard. 2. The emphasis on the “now” could be the key & they will wait til MIL lowers their inflated demands. 3. They are a serious suitor but want to leak that they aren’t so as not to upset BOS players being discussed. 4. They are serious suitor, but want the rest of the league to think they aren’t so that another team doesn’t offer more. 5. I just like making numbered lists.

The Brown +/- stuff is so wild to me. Like I get that it’s mocked by the analytics crowd but I just don’t understand how Jaylen’s +/- is so bad Like the team had a very good record prior to Tatum returning, but somehow were better +/- when Jaylen was on the bench. That implies that if they subtracted Jaylen & added a league average player they would have had an even better record prior to JT’s return? On paper a team w/ White & Pritchard as your 2 best players shouldn’t be that good. Besides the simplified “answer” of +/- is just trash, can someone explain how this is the case with JB & not w/ other stars?

I like Giannis don’t get me wrong, but not as much as I did when he was younger. Remember you aren’t trading for the younger MVP version. You’d be getting the higher paid, more injured Giannis for his age 32, 33, 34, and 35 seasons. As always it all comes down to cost. If Milwaukee is demanding a bunch of FRP’s be thrown in as if Giannis had the value of his past then you walk away. Guessing Brad, like his predecessor Danny is doing his job which is to do his due diligence on a deal. If nothing else it helps bump up the cost for another contender trying to add Giannis.

In 2023 JB turns the ball over every time he dribbles left & fans want him gone. In 2024 he wins ECF & Finals MVP. Point is judging the value on a player based off of a week’s worth of games is foolish. Luckily Brad doesn’t think like that. If fans wrote that White, Pritchard, & Queta sucked & should be traded before Gm. 5 then that’s one thing. But I remember fans didn’t want to trade White last draft & pushed that he should be the Celtics 2nd All- Star this yr. They also said Queta should win MIP & Pritchard 6MOTY. White for one has a proven track record of playing well for us in the playoffs. The trade idea I saw for Giannis (& Gafford) with Boston giving up Jaylen, White, Pritchard, Queta, & Hauser is moronic. White and Pritchard aren’t throw-ins. And if there value is lower bc of this year’s playoffs then selling low is not the way. Everyone nowadays loves to either say X player on their favorite team is super underrated & is great or they suck & should be traded. Truth is almost always somewhere in the middle.

The Pacers had a better than 50-50 shot of both upgrading at center on their Finals team AND getting a top-four pick in a draft with four top prospects. They took a risk and it backfired. I'm not gonna skewer a Finals team for being aggressive.
