Those of us over 40 remember when people said the same thing about Photoshop and Digital Cameras… It’s literally the same. No it’s not different this time. I can pull you word for word headlines that match Gen AI criticism for Adobe, Digital Photography and Digital Video replacing film… Word for Word. We lived this 20-30 years ago before some of you were born or able to form real thoughts of your own. We even debated it with our professors in college when they defended tradition desktop publishing and design methods focused almost exclusively on print, and resisted helping us embrace digital ads in favor of print because they wanted to defend the old way of doing things… instead of actually helping our careers… Same thing is happening in real l-time to content creators.

My fellow vtubers, please don't use gen AI for your content creation. I will never stop preaching this. Artists are the backbone of the vtubing sphere, if you respect your Artists who drew and/or rigged your model then refrain using AI slop for your other content. There are so many artists on vgen who fit to any type of budget and if you don't have anything to spend, then there are also so many wonderful free resources and assets created by a hard working artist for you. Respect your Artists and stop using AI that gets fed with stolen art.

Rather doubtful. To avoid shooting our projects' codebase-maintainability in the foot, we still need real (and legit skilled) humans supervising the output of AI. It's quite unlikely that said humans will become obsolete in that time frame. #softwareDev #gameDev #coding
Grummz@Grummz

Next year or so, only game designers will matter. It's clear that the cost of software coding is zero. Any feature, of any complexity is on tap right now, and will get cheaper. After that all that will be left is design, taste and distribution. Very human tasks still.

@Foxman671 Its ridiculous to see. "Just learn how to do X!" Most of it costs money to start, buying materials, etc., but disabilities can hinder others more than what's seen.

>have no money >use ai to conceptualize an idea because you can't afford drawing materials/are disabled, but want real art done. >finally get money/donations and try to hire artist >"you use ai, I can't work with you" >artists shocked people flock to ai Is this really the argument? Sounds rather ableist to me.

X vTubers and commission artists are melting down over AI today. And when you go look, their art is always worse than AI. This is a jealousy thing. They are angry their "skills" can't compete with AI and so they want to destroy it and forbid it from use. I get it, and I actually sympathize, but you throwing a tantrum and acting like a dick to your existing remaining customers is only going to hasten the AI replacement of you.

@Grummz It's even worse when the artists are the unreliable types who insist on biting off more than they can chew. You know the types... They keep taking new commissions even when they're already got several on the list. Several they take their diabetic time completing.

Please don't attack small indie developers over the physical game situation. For some small teams, it's simply not possible to release a physical edition on day one. The Duskfade dev team commented on the situation: "hey everybody, we love physical games too! we'd love to make boxed editions of Duskfade a reality, but as a smaller indie team we need to see how our digital launch goes first to see if its feasible for us <3"

Want one of the simplest ways to reduce bugs? Have one source of truth. That's it! Every piece of data should ideally exist in one place and one place only. The more copies you have, the more problems you create. Imagine storing player health in 3 different places, some sort of HealthSystem, a HealthBar and a Animator IsDead parameter. Eventually one gets updated but another doesn't. Which one is right? Now you have a bug and now you spend an hour trying to figure out why. But the problem isn't the bug, the problem is that the architecture made the bug possible in the first place. A lot of debugging pain can be avoided before the bug even exists if you have only one source of truth. Good architecture isn't about being clever, it's about making mistakes harder to make. One source of truth is one of the simplest ways to do exactly that. If the HealthSystem is the only thing that owns the health amount, and all the other classes like the HealthBar just read and display that value, then if you have a bug with health amount you know for a fact it has to be on the HealthSystem since that is the one source of truth. If you encounter a bug you know exactly where it is. That's the massive benefit of following this one simple rule. I have an entire 1hr talk on YouTube all about this topic titled: "How to Write High Quality Code that doesn't fall apart." If you're trying to be a professional game dev as opposed to just a hobbyist building throwaway prototypes, then I highly recommend you learn how to write proper high quality clean code. Best of luck!
