@mk4goated @sebastien_c123 @Acts17David @InspiringPhilos That's rethorical question blud, literally in the same chapter "The truth has certainly come to you from your Lord, so never be among the doubters". It's like Donald Trump said “If you doubt I’m the president, ask anyone—but don’t waste time doubting what’s already obvious

Most people have no idea about the real history of Al-Aqsa Mosque, because they’ve only been fed the Islamic Palestinian propaganda version of events. They believe that Al-Aqsa has always been Islam’s third holiest site, that it has belonged to Muslims since the dawn of time, and that Israel is the oppressor for merely existing near it. None of that is true. The Temple Mount in Jerusalem was the holiest site in Judaism for over a thousand years before Islam even appeared in history. It housed the First and Second Jewish Temples, the center of Jewish worship and pilgrimage. When the Romans destroyed the Second Temple in 70 AD, they built pagan shrines over it, but its Jewish identity never disappeared. In the 7th century Islam emerges and expands through conquest, and begins hijacking Jewish and Christian sites, prophets, and narratives. At first, Jerusalem had no major significance in Islam. Muhammad never set foot there. There was no mosque. There was no pilgrimage. There was no Islamic history tied to the city. But that changed during the brutal power struggle between Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan and Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr. By the late 7th century, Islam was deeply divided. Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr controlled Mecca and Medina, the two holiest cities in Islam. And Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, the Umayyad Caliph, controlled the Levant. But Abd al-Malik had a problem, he didn’t want the people of the Levant traveling to Mecca for pilgrimage, because that would give power to his rival. Abd al-Malik declared the Temple Mount as Alaqsa mosque that was mentioned in the quran, and he made it an alternative place of pilgrimage. He ordered the construction of the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa Mosque to divert attention from Mecca. And just like that, Islam manufactured a holy site for political gain. The real Masjid Al-Aqsa referred to in the Quran was not in Jerusalem, it was between Mecca and Ta’if. There was no mosque in Jerusalem at the time. There was no Islamic presence there. Yet, centuries later, after Islam had conquered the city, the Islamic narrative retroactively applied this Quranic verse to Jerusalem, again, for political convenience. If Israel wanted to act like Islamic conquerors, it could have easily done to Al-Aqsa what Turkey did to the Hagia Sophia. It could have converted the mosque into the Third Temple, banned Muslim prayer on the site, erased any trace of Islamic history, as Muslims did to Christian and Jewish sites throughout history. But Israel didn’t do that. Israel allows Muslims to pray there freely. Israel protects Al-Aqsa, even as it is used to spread anti-Semitic propaganda and incite violence. Yet, despite this, the world condemns Israel for merely existing in its own capital.

As someone baptized orthodox at birth, never ever convert to orthodoxy. We are the most abominable denomination there is. You're better off being Muslim or Mormon or a Jehovah's witness or Amish. Do not do it. Stick with the Bible and stay non denominational. The only thing worth it in orthodoxy is the Communion and love for the Mother, and Isaac Syrian's prayers. In orthodoxy you're forced to be around nerds with ponytails tied with prayer ropes, competing who has the longer prayer rope and who mindlessly chanted more Jesus prayers today. Whether you broke the fast with yogurt or not. Old women in church will monitor whether your wife's polka dot sundress is long enough, whether she has head covering. God forbid you don't wanna go kiss and bow to every single icon after the service that they like up to do in a semicircle. Orthobros will talk about how stacked their prayer corner is, then post a photoshopped icon with the Mother in boxing gloves or say the craziest irreverent blasphemy and laugh about it. I lived the church life, I really tried, I prayed for years to get love for it. No. Do not do it, do not try it, run. In my case, it's Bible and no church of any kind, I'm done

Disagree, I don't think this is a big sticking point for most protestants. Though I don't agree with how orthos and caths define iconography or veneration, its more like a quirk to me than a major theological error. I think EO has far bigger problems than iconography.

You see, this was @mehdirhasan's perfect opportunity to speak out against the radical Islam @JohnCleese was referring to and, of course, he failed! Mehdi literally proved his point! Mehdi didn't even counter with his own argument... he immediately went to insulting the "kafir"

I've been following David Wood's dive into Eastern Orthodoxy and just finished watching his video with Orthodox Ethos. I have to be honest: It was extremely unconvincing as a positive case for EO. The constant appeal to church fathers over Scripture was a huge red flag. The main argument boiled down to: "This is how Christianity has always been, God wouldn't abandon His church, we're right, so join our church." The most interesting part was about Christians outside the church. OE argued that those outside of EO may "follow" Christ in a sense, but do not have Christ in them for His healing. This clashes with Acts 10: Acts 10:44-45, 47-48a While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word. And the believers from among the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out even on the Gentiles. "Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. These Gentiles were filled with the Holy Spirit after simply hearing and believing the Gospel - *before* baptism. This makes it tough to argue that baptism is required for salvation, let alone for God's spirit to indwell someone. This also undermines EO's claim of "this is what the Church has always taught."

To remind everyone what really happened that night: • They cut off testicles and shoved them into the victims's mouths. • They stabbed pregnant women in the womb and raped them. • They beheaded people. • They gouged people's eyes out. French authorities worked overtime to keep these details away from the public. And apparently, the mastermind behind this atrocity will soon walk, because European leaders are cowards and traitors who will never do the right thing.

@beCatholicc @needGod_net 3. You are asking a specific, deceased human being to actively hear you, process your request, and use her heavenly position to intercede with God on your behalf, is wrong and prohibited, Deuteronomy 18:11, why is this obsession, where you can pray straight to Jesus.

Didn’t Evangelicals make and decorate a golden statue for trump just 2 weeks ago? You also all had no issue with all the Charlie Kirk “altars” that was set up in his honor, with people kneeling before his image, surrounding it with flowers, candles and writing messages to him in heaven. You all understood it as honor, you all grasped that it is distinct from worship but when a similar thing is done for Mary (the most honored woman to ever exist), you suddenly can no longer grasp it? Revelation 12 also depicts the woman who bore Christ as a Queen having a crown in heaven. Is Scripture too worshiping the woman? Anyone who knows Catholicism knows that every petition to Mary is for her to take to her Son like she did at the wedding at Cana, not that she can do anything on her own. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective (James 5:16)

@beCatholicc @needGod_net 2. equating human honor with spiritual altars is category error. Requesting prayer from living friends per James 5:16, building altars, burning incense, offering prayers to deceased is biblical definition of forbidden worship, no matter what semantic label you try paste over it.

@beCatholicc @needGod_net 1. You damn well know its not at all the same, why playing this dumb game Revelation 12 is israel, not mary, AT ALL. The "sun, moon, and 12 stars" is a direct quote from joseph's dream in genesis 37:9-11, the 12 tribes. Mary didn't flee for 1,260 days; the remnant of israel does.

@beCatholicc @needGod_net 2. If your "honor" for a creature looks identical to your worship of God, the creator, using the exact same physical postures, songs, and devotion, the distinction is entirely in your head, not your actions, the bible condemns this repeatedly.

People cry, kiss the images of their loved ones everyday, make songs for them, ask them to pray for them (exactly what Catholics do when we pray to Saints in heaven). Many cultures bow as a way of honor (we see this in Scripture too). No one thinks that these things are worship of itself. You’re the ones who are either feigning ignorance or have a low view of worship.

@needGod_net Why is it only when it comes to the Blessed Mother of God that Evangelicals suddenly have to pretend that they don’t understand the use of statues in honor of great people? Answer: Because Mary being honored enrages them. “the dragon was enraged at the woman” (Rev 12:17)
