BTW, stay away from women who use the word 'insecure' to manipulate you into not judging their degeneracy. You are not 'insecure' but 'territorial'. Lions are territorial. Wolves are territorial. And so are men. If she can't take it, she needs to go back to the streets.

Also, the surname change is quite easy. It takes a day to change it in Aadhar and bank accounts. One appointment at the PSK to change it in the passport. If she won't even do this much for you (especially in an arranged marriage), why are you risking your entire life for her?

What's practical is also low-effort. Women used to be invested in their marriages because of dowry and surname change. Now only one party is fully invested in the marriage, while also assuming all the (legal) risk: men. And we wonder why women are divorcing their husbands.

This is usually not about feminism but practicality. Changing surname leads to so many changes- bank accounts, tax records, passports, any future migration plans…. Everything then forever requires ‘did you have a different name before?’ section completed, often adds paperwork, affidavits etc. It’s not ‘Feminism’ because the girl’s surname is not a matrilineal surname from her mother and their mothers before. It’s from her father, so it’s just a ‘single generation defiance’ of Patriarchy. They can decide how any child will be named. If their reason is legal practicality, keeping father’s surname will be easier to negotiate life with. Give Mother’s name or ‘double-barrel’ surname and the child will be stuck with the paperwork the mother escaped.
