EXCL: NEC officers have voted by a majority to let Andy Burnham stand in the Makerfield by-election. Unclear if a meeting was held in the end - there were conflicting reports this morning and sources told me earlier there was nothing in the diary - but a vote has been taken and Burnham will be allowed to stand as the candidate.

I’ll always champion peaceful protest. But the Unite the Kingdom march organisers are peddling hatred and division. We’ve already blocked visas for far-right agitators who want to come here to spew their extremist views. They don't speak for the decent, fair, respectful Britain I know.

In recent months I’ve chosen to stay out of all the “noise” of X and the cross party political horrors we are witnessing as our country descends into chaos after years of neglect. And I have been approached by many media outlets today to ask if I am going to stand against @AndyBurnhamGM in the Makerfield by election. I’ve declined all interviews up to now. But I just wanted to say here that whilst I’m hugely flattered that the public consider me as worthy of their trust in such a huge moment, and many have messaged me asking me to throw my hat in the ring, I feel I can do more good from the place I am. The work fighting for victims and survivors of “rape gangs”, all survivors of any kind of sexual violence still being hugely failed by our police/courts/cps, and to continue to use my voice to expose the cover ups and corruption in our institutions that has consumed my life for 13 years isn’t finished yet. And I don’t quit until it’s won! I know my subject inside out! And I know what’s needed…. My charity @TMOFCharity and I are currently fighting this government in a Judicial Review, a “David and Goliath” fight as I said in March. We are also fighting alongside many dozens of survivors as we try to ensure they have an effective voice in this so called new “statutory enquiry” - which in all honesty is shaping up to be exactly like the one that fell apart last year when survivors including @fionagoddarduk @EllieAnnRe71927 @snatched1400 and others resigned in disgust at the secrecy and “game playing” they saw from @jessphillips and others in government. 3 months after we took over two dozen survivors to meet @annelongfield and her team in Manchester we’re still to receive any update, response or even the most basic communication about the direction of travel of this new “Statutory enquiry”and again we’re hearing on the grapevine of more “secret squirrel meetings”, NDAs, lack of openness and transparency etc etc So my work here is not yet done, and I intend to see this through until I can rest knowing change is coming. But thankyou for your trust in me. Which in all honesty means the world 💕

Burnham doesn't stand a chance, Makerfield is prime Reform territory. Makerfield is a UK parliamentary constituency in the North West of England (primarily covering parts of the Wigan borough, including areas like Ashton-in-Makerfield, Hindley, Ince, and Leigh West). It is a largely working-class area with higher-than-average home ownership, lower ethnic diversity than the national average, and slightly older demographics.

And a Tory source tells me: “As soon as she heard about this, Kemi instantly demanded this arrangement be stopped. The group leader was suspended with immediate effect. Kemi was clear she would not put up with this sort of nonsense.”

Wes Streeting's allies say he had the numbers but decided this morning not to trigger a leadership contest for two broad reasons: 1) He would have had to rely on significant numbers of ministers and aides on the payroll, meaning a wave of resignations. It would have disembowelled the government 2) He concluded that a contest would be deemed illegitimate if Andy Burnham was not able to take part. And that if he had pushed for a rapid contest and won it Burnham would have come for him later. It was a question of legitimacy 3) He realised that he had to 'put up or shut up'. Having told Starmer to his face that he had lost confidence in his leadership - much as the letter suggests - he could not continue in govt It leaves a deeply unhappy, bitterly divided Labour Party with the millstone of 94 MPs (now including Streeting) hanging around Sir Keir Starmer's neck Nothing is resolved. Starmer remains in power for now. The question now is for how long. What will Burnham do next? And perhaps more pertinently what will the Cabinet do? Proceed as if none of this has happened? We have a damaged prime minister, a deeply divided Labour Party and no resolution in sight. All with the prospect of a huge cost of living crisis coming down the tracks this Winter...

I am deeply honoured to have been elected unanimously! Since joining @reformparty_uk, I have been judged not by the colour of my skin, but by my ability, and commitment to public service. That has been a refreshing & profoundly different experience from my time in @UKLabour

er … This whole article is deeply troubling but the most alarming bit is this … Not only have 8 foreign speakers been banned from entering the country but for the first time, police have imposed speech conditions on speakers at the Unite the Kingdom march (and the Palestinian march) Organisers are now being held responsible for ensuring invited speakers don’t break the law by … “platforming unlawful extremism or hate speech” and they will be held responsible if they do. Whatever your politics, this is terrible for free speech. Who decides what hate speech is? People who simply don’t like what is said? In addition live facial recognition will only be used at the Unite the Kingdom march. These are pre-emptive speech controls used subjectively to shut up dissent and close down debate … for your safety.

EXCL: Angela Rayner has been cleared by HMRC of deliberate wrongdoing or carelessness over her tax affairs, paving the way for a potential leadership bid if Keir Starmer’s grip on power unravels. The former DPM has settled £40,000 in unpaid stamp duty, but has not paid any penalty as a result of the investigation. HMRC was also satisfied there was no tax avoidance. Rayner tells me she was “bruised” by whole experience because of intrusion into her disabled son’s personal life, but also because it had appeared as though she was “in it for myself” rather than on the side of ordinary people. Rayner indicated she may run in event of a contest as she would “play my part” and that she understood why Labour MPs were so upset following last week’s election crushing. She said Starmer should “reflect on” stepping aside.

It is my understanding Farage is cooperating with the EC. 👏 That’s the difference between him and Lowe. Lowe tried to stop an ICGS investigation into him using the High Court. If you’ve nothing to hide Lowe why go to such measures, prove you’re innocence and cooperate
