A man from South Yorkshire travels over 270 miles to Ann Widdecombe’s home on Dartmoor, supposedly.
Police say with certainty there’s “no information to suggest” it was politically motivated while they review CCTV from cameras around her property.
Coincidence? Or are we being told what to think before the full picture emerges?
This doesn’t add up.

One other thing. It’s not just that the speculation from Reform supporters is unhelpful for the police investigation. They have specifically been told the speculation is upsetting to Ann Widdecombe’s family. And yet they are carrying on regardless.

Whilst in the Co Op, a woman in front of me with two teenage girls was buying a couple of bottles of those blue alcopop drinks and a bottle of wine.
To her amazement, the assistant asked to ID her KID'S ages.
She lost her cool and asked why.
"You might be buying alcohol by proxy for your children", she responded.
She demanded to see the store manager, who informed her he was backing his staff member, as the law permits checking the ages of children if the accompanying adult is purchasing alcohol.
Has anyone ever seen or heard of this happening?

AN APOLOGY I was seriously wrong and insensitive in one of the several media appearances I made yesterday in reaction to the death of Ann Widdecombe. I got the timing and tone of my initial word portrait of her wrong. Of course I shared, and share, the horror at her murder and the respect for her remarkable and feisty political career. I also know that many people loved her for her subsequent showbiz stardom. Her untimely death is a horrible thing. My mistaken view was that in the context of rolling news coverage, I was being asked to contribute as an obituarist who has known her and interacted with her since the 1980s. This approach was premature. At no point was I expressing my personal feelings about her, that's not what I do. I was discussing her life in the round, based on the record of known facts and what she has said about herself, along with some recollections of our personal interactions. My choice of words on the spur of the moment was clumsy. I did not intend to offend though obviously I did.

Someone may quite literally have been murdered, and the response from some people is to talk about their politics and call them a bigot.
