A small chime sounded as the Doctor of Rhodes Island stepped into the café. It looked as he expected it to. Tiled floors, wooden chairs and tables, some positive quotes framed on the wall. The windows seemed to be unique as they seemed to be large displays showing various season of different skylines and cities. There was one at the far side showing snow outside with a tree just inside decorated with colored balls, lights, and rope of colored objects. The women he was looking for were seated near the tree with W having her back to him and Civilight Eterna enjoying a pink macaron. Civilight wore a brown sweater top and a pink skirt while W wore a white long-sleeve button up, her torn leggings and shorts with a red scarf to match her horns. Both were laughing and seemed to be enjoying their time together.
He decided to hold off interrupting them, it wasn't urgent that they come back at once. He could wait and return with them if they left soon. The table next to them had another couple of women. The taller of the two had long sharp ears but, lacked any other trait to positively identify her race. She wore a pink dress with a long skirt, clothing that matched the cold weather outside. The other was a short girl with blue hair, a yellow rubber rain jacket hanging on the back of her chair. A trail of mud went between her and another door that had a window displaying a sunny forest, soaked after a recent rain with a mud path just outside the door. She looked like a child or perhaps one of the short statured Durins. He couldn't see her ears to confirm which one she was.
The inside had a different layout than what it's outside appearance suggested. He thought it would be a large rectangle but it actually formed a sort of right angled 'U' shape with either way leading to a side of the 'U'. He had come in on on the the right corner and could see to the back wall from where he was and decided to sit near the corner on the side facing the front of the shop. The Barista came over from the far side to take his order. He asked for a water while he waited and the barista simply nodded. He returned a minute later with a glass of water and placed it on the counter. Before the barista could walk back the Doctor decided to sate his own curiosity.
"Why have displays with different seasons disguised as windows?"
"Are you wondering why we try to make them blend in or show different seasons?"
"I suppose why make them different seasons instead of showing different areas of the world as they are, since I can see some of these look like the accurate representations of some places."
The barista smiled before answering," Why do they think they are displays and not normal windows?"
"Well, to start," he nodded at the wall to the right side, "That wall is attached to a Yanese restaurant that is currently open. It also hasn't snowed in a week and wasn't snowing when I came in. Too much snow in the display."
The barista nodded again, "You have magic in your world right. Terra is it?"
The Doctor sipped his water before answering, "You say that as if you don't live here."
"I don't. They aren't displays, they are windows to different worlds. My world doesn't really have magic of any kind but, most other worlds do. Each window is showing what's outside for the door next to it."
"Portal magic, I don't think I have seen anything like that"
"Not many have and we don't recommend walking out a door that isn't yours."
The Doctor looked up at that. "Why not?"
"There is more than just portal magic at work here. Translation magic lets us understand each other, protection ward makes it so the atmosphere doesn't kill you when you walk in. I watched someone walk out the wrong door and almost get crushed by gravity. The patron that came from that door had to drag him back in. The magic makes it feel like your own home environment but, it goes away when you step outside."
"I will make sure I leave the way I came in then. Thank you for the warning."
He looked over at the two women near Civilight as he considered the information. The lack of defining racial traits on them could be explained by being aliens to Terra. He wondered what kind of information he could gather from them. Did originium affect them the same way it did to the natives? Would they be resistive to it's effects like himself and some of the other world transplants now working at Rhodes Island like Ash and her team?
He noticed Civilight looking at him and she began waving. W turned to look and her smile flickered for a moment before she put on what he thought was a fake one. Civilight waved him over and he bid the barista farewell.
As he passed by the strange women from another world he caught a few snippets of their conversation. The smaller woman was speaking.
"Yes, there is no such thing as too far gone. All are welcome in the Church. It isn't always easy to turn away from some habits and addictions but, we want to help everyone get through it and grow closer to the Lord."
The other woman said something that he missed as he got closer to Civilight's table but, he could hear the response from the small bubbly woman.
"There is nothing wrong with such a thing within a marriage. The Lord established it so that spouses could experience pleasure and enjoyment of body and spirit. Therefore, the spouses do nothing evil in seeking this pleasure and enjoyment. They accept what the Lord has intended for them. "
He pulled out a chair and sat down on W's left. She scooted away from him so that she sat closer to Civilight and both were across the table from him.
"Good afternoon Doctor. " Civilight's soft voice soothed his nerves when she spoke.
"Good afternoon Civilight, Wiš'adel" He tried to ignore the way W was fidgeting with her purse while wearing a smile on her face.
"Did you come to join us Doctor?" Civilight drew his attention back to her.
"Yes and no. A mission has come up and we are needing your skills for it," the Doctor saw W's jaw tighten at his words, "both of your skills. I am afraid your day off is being cut short. The meeting is in a few hours but I came to bring you two back when you were finished here so we can have everyone on time."
"Well how about I-," W started to speak but, stopped when Civilight placed a hand on W's.
"Please, allow me. You will be given another day off to replace this one being cut short"
"I want an extra day for the inconvenience," W spoke without hesitation, "Not just for us but, all my mercenaries as well"
"That can be arranged. I will see that they are marked for extra leave with Amiya, whom is the one that requested you." W didn't respond to him for a moment. Thinking for a moment while he looked on.
"The little bunny wants us, well," W tapped a finger against her lips, "Alright. Will she be joining the mission as well?"
There was a look in W's eye that he couldn't place. Genuine curiosity maybe and she wasn't showing any of the normal signs of the more 'prank' side of her personality.
"She will be the captain for the mission, yes." Her lip turned down on one side at that.
"You aren't joining us huh, too bad" She leaned back in her seat and exhaled, "I was hoping to see how you held up in the field again."
"I'll be leading a second team, one that hopefully won't be under as much fire. But," he considered whether to tell her the next part. Letting her know she could kill him 'accidentally' and nobody being able to technically blame her might be something she could try, "I will be in the enemy lines, so heavy artillery and firepower clearing the way will help me get in and out faster."
W sat up at that, staring at him.
"You, behind enemy lines where any of us could accidentally hit you. You're crazier than I am"
Civilight calmly nodded at his words when he and W spoke. "I trust you completely Doctor and I will help make sure you are able to complete your mission unharmed," She looked at W before finishing, "By enemy or friendly fire. Wiš'adel will do her best as well"
W glanced at Civilight and nodded her agreement, "Of course, nobody is getting near our dear Doctor while we are there."
"Well then, let us return to Rhodes Island. We still have time to shop on the way back" Civilight rose from her chair and waited for the Doctor and Wiš'adel to join her. Once they did, she opened the door and a small bell rung. The streets weren't busy in this district in the evening and he was glad for it. Their walk was mostly uneventful with Wiš'adel walking next to Civilight a few feet ahead of him.
Civilight at one point leaned and whispered something into Wiš'adel's ear. She responded with a sharp, "NO". Her face was flushing as he watched her and he wondered what they were discussing. Civilight had never tried to intentionally surprise and... embarrass Wiš'adel. He wasn't sure what the emotion Wiš'adel was going through, either rage or embarrassment. He tried to listen in and heard some of the exchange. Civilight turned her head he could see a small smile from the side as she looked back at him.
He shook his head as he considered Wiš'adel. He wasn't sure what made her so flushed but she seemed to be calming down now. Theresa was running her fingers through Wiš'adel's silver hair.
He let out a breath of air. Theresa pointed out a mall and they made their way inside. He checked the time and decided he wouldn't rush them for a little while. They went through a few clothing stores and a sweet shop at one point. There was a small grocery area and he considered buying a potato for her to carve but, decided against it. Now was not the time to play silly antagonistic games with her.
When time was running out Theresa spoke to Wiš'adel and him,
"I think it is about time to return home. Yes Doctor?"
He nodded in response and led the way outside. He walked ahead of them, occasionally looking back to make sure they were still with him. At some point Wiš'adel had made her way next to him, saying nothing as they walked along.
"I got something for you" Wiš'adel suddenly spoke, so quiet he might have missed it had the street been any more lively. He looked at her and glanced back at Theresa. Her face was passive, only showing a small smile when she caught him looking.
"I appreciate it. What did you get?" His curiosity outweighed his normal caution around Wiš'adel and her "Gifts". Deciding that it couldn't be too dangerous with Theresa watching her.
"Well, Lady Theresa said that small token gifts were a good show of friendship between allies" She rummaged through one of her bags as she spoke. Eventually she pulled out a small coin. and handed it to him.
He examined it. It looked like a simple metal coin. A bit larger than would be considered manageable for a coin, covering a quarter of his palm. The details were far more than he expected. One side showed the symbol of Rhodes Island, a black rook piece on a white triangle background. It was all silver so the background was indented while the rook was raised. The motto of Rhodes island was so small he almost couldn't read it but, it was there and legible if you got a good look at it.
"May I Enjoy my Life and Practice My Art" and "Respected by All Men and In All Times"
When he turned the coin over his breath caught in his throat. He had seen the records and been reading the logs from before his memory went missing. He had seen the emblem in those records. It was the same one Wiš'adel had decided would become the provisional government of Kazdel.

"Thank you Wiš'adel" He spoke without thinking. Confusion at why she chose this as the token of friendship. Because Kazdel, herself and Rhodes Island were working together. It made sense.
He looked over at her and caught her watching his reaction. She jumped and looked away.
"Anyway. We will probably be working together a lot in the future, Babel and Rhodes Island I mean. So please accept this token to represent that. Hopefully one day, we'll make the future that Lady Theresa wanted a reality" She finished speaking and realizing that she was done, turned and started walking ahead of him.
"Yes, the future Theres-" He stopped mid-speech and came to a standstill, allowing Theresa to catch up and stand next to him.
How long had he been calling-
"Isn't it nice that Wiš'adel wants to continue working to a better future alongside Rhodes Island. I am glad to see it. I am sure Amiya will also be glad to see Wiš'adel working with you more and not be so careless as well." Theresa soft voice broke his chain of thought but, it quickly reformed. He stared at Theresa as he realized that she must have done something.
"What were you and Wiš'adel talking about before we arrived at the mall?" His voice was soft and clear.
"Oh this and that, nothing you need to worry about." Her smile betrayed nothing but, this was the manipulator that led both a revolution and a civil war. Her intelligence and planning rivalled his. If she was planning something involving him and Wiš'adel, it couldn't be going against the interests of Rhodes Island. She was dedicated to helping Amiya. Perhaps by helping Wiš'adel learn to fit into more social situations was her way of helping Amiya control the wild card called Wiš'adel. No, W wouldn't care to fit into social situations, that was her entire existence. Theresa was trying to coax W into doing something else. Her actions around him hadn't changed so what was Theresa's trying to do?
"Of course Civilight" He said nothing else and followed Wiš'adel. As he tried to catch up, A feeling of fog on the edge on the edge of his mind faded. He hadn't realized the feeling was there until it waned. He focused and it completely broke apart under his will, as if it was second nature. As if he had done this sort of thing before. He didn't have enough information to decide what the future might hold but, he would probably not need to be as cautious around Wiš'adel and have to be more careful around Civilight Eterna from now on.
