Edvard Munch died in 1944 & his estate passed to the city of Oslo. One version of The Scream went to the National Museum of Norway. Another went to the Munch Museum. A 1895 pastel version ended up in private hands when it sold at auction for nearly US$120 million in 2012. 8/8 FIN🧵

Munch couldn’t leave the moment of "The Scream" alone. He made 4 versions and even more paintings, pastels, prints. One sold for $119 million. The theme from "The Scream" kept scratching at Munch. It shows up in his other works too; Anxiety, Despair, Melancholy. Haunted like he was. 7/8👇
