@_Tyto_Alba I keep wishing they would do a rerun in theaters, I’d watch it again. I felt exactly the same way, grinning from ear to ear as soon as the OYW segment started and leaving thinking “this is Gundam for today” after the Gqux segment. The effect is so striking in the film cut.

Getting to see the movie in theaters before the series release really sold this series to me. It was so vibrant and fun that I couldn’t remember the last time I was so excited to sit down for a weekly episode like this. I wish there was more 😭

@battleupsaber In my headcanon, this better Char has seen beyond time and doesn’t pressure or exploit Shuji. He basically just gifts Shuji the Akai and hopes for the best while he goes undercover. That’s why he’s so shocked by post-dimension hopping Shuji turning out that way.

Further credence to my interpretation that Shuji = blank slate is that his colours and blue and white- literally the archetypical Protagonist Gundam colours An allegory for how he views himself as an extension of the Gundam's will and nothing more

People have been making fun of this statement from Enokido, but it actually makes sense to me. It all comes down to what Shuji is as a character, or rather what he isn't. Shuji gets a lot of hate for being a blank slate, but - here me out - i think it's intentional. (THREAD)

@battleupsaber I disagree because I think it’s really important Amuro gets a voice in the metanarrative. He’s the one who kills Lalah over and over in the minds of fans as they’ve obsessed over Gundam for half a century, every time 79 is rewatched. He is what Shuji is trying to become.

to offer some fair criticism, I will say that the one time I think the show went too far and became nostaglia-bait is when Amuro's voice comes out of the Gquuuuuux. not just because Furuya's a shitheel, but i simply don't think we needed to know that Amuro is in the robot.

calling Gquuuuux a nostlagia-bait thing is stupid to me because that show's premise is that it's set in an alt UC. By virtue of being in that setting, characters and things from the UC Gundam shows will appear. A thing is not nostalgia-pandering if it's part of that setting.
