Finally was able to spend a bit more time and wrap up the texturing for this project. The final render was done in #UE5 so that I could get some more experience setting up material graphs. For this one, I used a combination of gradient remapping and material blending.

@ParkerHartzler @J_Lee_Design Yeah. Pretty sure the max number of components a landscape can be is 32x32 though eh? And since you can crank the number of quads per component up to 127. That puts the max size of a landscape at 8129x8129 meters. Unless you’re also overriding the landscape actors scale?

@ChantNational @J_Lee_Design You can actually increase the landscape size by directly increased the "number of components x by y" number, which will increase the resolution the more you add. I create a default landscape of the correct scale first, and then import the heightmap onto the default landscape ~

@ParkerHartzler @J_Lee_Design I think unreal has a max limit of 8kmX8km on their landscapes. So you were always going to need to split them across multiple landscape actors anyways. 32km is ambitious. So best of luck! Hope it all works out.

@ChantNational @J_Lee_Design I'm using a tiled heightmap, so 1009x1009 png 16 bit - and for 32km that comes out to 1024 tiles. What I think I'm gonna have to do is import it in quarters/halves and pray for no seams/stitching issues. Jake also mentioned a great method too!

@ParkerHartzler @J_Lee_Design Nice! Yeah that should put you in a good place then. Might need some simple automation scripts if you need to import them a tile at a time but at least you can tailor it to meet the needs of your hardware specs. 👍

@ParkerHartzler @J_Lee_Design What your workflow? Most landscape systems allow for the exporting/importing of landscapes via tiles. Instead of just doing it as a single mesh/heightmap.

@craorii Favorite would be Marmoset. If I had to go with a free option. I would just use the baking tools within Blender. Since that’s my 3D software of choice. Unfortunately I’m not familier with other free options.
