Butting in and giving a slightly deeper explanation because many ppl understandably don't understand why x86 can't just copy M1 here: On ARM every instruction is 4bytes long, nice consistent and easy. Decode an instruction every 4 bytes, they should all be valid instructions 1/?
James@JamesDSneed

@bzogrammer @TheKanter @jonmasters As someone that is an enthusiast not in this field is it because X86 has variable instruction length that makes implementing a wider decoder much more difficult?

@RomulusNotNuma Bizarre. Edmonton has had ample time to move on from Skinner if they (very correctly) thought he wasn't the guy, they consistently chose to keep him. Now they move him for a marginal upgrade with several yrs left on a more expensive contract and pack in extras?

@JoshDWalrath @NVIDIAGeForce I was wearing a womb in 1989. I'm reliably informed it's very comfortable but probably not the height of fashion. So you win again :(

@JoshDWalrath @jimpoppleton A huge appetite that isn't willing to pay enough to cover the costs of generating it. This is a depressing little thread you've created.

@ChaoticLife13 @jimpoppleton The sad part is that there are actual productive applications that are going to be flushed when the crackdown occurs. Data analysis and management are huge, but the appetite for this AI generated content is just too much now.

I was curious what a 10 second AI produced video consumes in power. Turns out someone did the math with current hardware and it is the equivalent of running a 1000 watt microwave for two hours, or around 6.8 million joules. We are so cooked...

@JoshDWalrath @jimpoppleton Nvidia will prop this up as long as they can but the sheer amount of money Nvidia is throwing into companies who immediately turn around and buy Nvidia GPU's and then use those GPU's as collateral for more loans to push the bill due date back a little should terrify everyone.

@ChaoticLife13 @jimpoppleton I think we are past peak demand, but shipments will still grow to meet the backorders. I'm also expecting to start hearing about cancelled orders by the end of this year that will offset typical seasonal demand and quarterly results.

@ChaoticLife13 @JoshDWalrath The AI chip trade isn’t cooling off; it’s accelerating. Investors still see NVDA as the backbone of AI infrastructure globally

@JoshDWalrath It'll be very ugly when it comes due, Nvidia alone counts for about 8% of the the S&P 500 and the promises of endless growth are faltering. OpenAI has mind blowing amounts of debt and their CFO is making financial promises that are miles beyond insanity. Expect pain. Lots of it.

@ChaoticLife13 Yeah, eventually they are going to have to find a way to monetize and simply cut off free access. That is some serious power consumption for something as silly as a lady carrying a boulder on a glass bridge and falling down.

@TicTacTOmar No idea why he agreed to this, the cap is shooting up. He was a year from UFA and had two terrific seasons in a row. If he was healthy enough to play more then ~40 games and even average he would have been set to be a clear #1 somewhere at a higher price.

@Baqzack20 Ask ChatGPT if it thinks you need to find a new therapist, because if there is one area I really do not think AI would be at all useful it's therapy.

A few months ago my Therapist mentioned that she uses AI during our sessions, like a lot. I still don't know how to feel about that. Maybe I should ask ChatGPT how I should feel.

@chiakokhua Product for marketing reasons. The foundry doesn't need the Intel brand name, it's inconsequential. The products benefit substantially from a very recognizable brand consumers are familiar with.

@JoshDWalrath I just don't DO anything more intensive then scrolling text, looking at pictures, rarely watching a video. Tough to get excited when my needs are static and extremely simple. Give me half decent battery life and a good camera. Everything else is wasted on me.

I have a hard time getting excited about the latest smart phones. I can truly appreciate the technology that drive them, and the features they offer with fairly long battery times are amazing. Still, I just never caught the bug about getting excited about that stuff.

@ByronMBader You're using your own model to evaluate picks done that were done based on what the model says. Of course the model likes it's own suggestions, that goes without saying. The test should be based upon what they do in the NHL, which for most of them has yet to be determined.

This is interesting... My faux Buffalo draft, which I've been running since 2020, would have these prospects: Graduated: Rossi, Clarke, Benson Top 5: L. Hutson, C. Hutson, Mateychuk, Helenius and Cristall Top Goalie Prospects: Khazheyev and Motorygin Other Notable Prospects: Zellweger, Jackson Smith, Howard, Dumais, Dragicevic, L. Misa, Swanson, Yurov, Mooney, Schmidt, Loranger, Mukhanov Running it through my prospect ranking system, it would essentially be the best prospect system in the NHL. It would be the best top 5 ranking for stars and NHLers. It would have the best star depth and about 5th for NHLer depth and goalie system. And this is with removing the various players I've drafted over the years that were never drafted. Even if they still look favorable in the model today. If they wern't drafted by now they were removed from the calculation. Granted, my team of prospects would be quite small. But could you imagine the trades you could make with this system!! Pretty, pretty... pretty good.

@theninjagreg This sounds innovative. Do you think a similar strategy would work for the Leafs?
