Dr James Nyikal. A lawmaker. A highly respected medic. Once Kenya’s senior most doctor as Director of Medical Services. Once the PS for Medical Services. Currently chairman of the National Assembly Health Committee. He was bereaved. A Senator went to his dad’s funeral with violent goons. Dr Nyikal sounds pained and pissed off at the same time.

Dr Nyikal was really pissed off by Prof Ojienda's goons at his dad's funeral.

He won through self sponsorship, the money you contributed helped him. What are skaters supposed to do so that the ministry can support them? Let’s appreciate him again. 0758514315

I am saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Job Masakhue Lukuru Obwaka, a distinguished obstetrician and gynaecologist who gave decades of his life to the health and wellbeing of Kenyan women. His service at The Nairobi Hospital leaves a legacy that will endure long after us. To his family, colleagues, and all who knew him, may you find comfort and strength in this season of grief.

The strength that Dr. Chris Obwaka, son of Dr. Job Obwaka, had on this day was immense. He had his father’s medicine at hand, yet the authorities holding them at the Milimani Courts parking area refused to allow him to even speak to his father or give him his medication. With the help of SC @NelsonHavi, @ckanjama, @OmbetaC, and others, they allowed me to examine him. Mzee was not in good health. Eventually, Chris was allowed to bring the medication to his father. He had missed his heart medicine. After giving Mzee his medication, we advised that we further examine him because he was not looking good. The authorities were still adamant. The only recourse was to call an ambulance with an emergency doctor to manage him at the parking area. One of the investigating officers whispered to me that, had the ambulance not been called in the glaring presence of the media and the public, their instructions were to keep him in the police vehicle at the discretion of the powerful man calling the shots. By 1 pm, despite having been within the precincts of the court, no charge sheet had been presented to the Honourable Magistrate. A defaulting charge sheet was later presented, which, of course, contained fictitious claims against Daktari, including allegations that he had not filed returns for Nairobi Hospital in the year 2024. We left the court at 5 pm that evening. I do NOT know how this regime will beat these allegations.

It is with deep sorrow that I have learnt of the passing of Dr. Job Obwaka, a renowned Obstetrician-Gynaecologist and Board Director at the Nairobi Hospital. To the family of Dr. Obwaka, I extend my heartfelt condolences at this difficult moment. I join you in mourning a man of great resolve, a just and principled son of our motherland, and an intellectual par excellence who devoted his life to saving human life and standing for truth. Dr. Obwaka will be remembered strongly not only for his professional excellence, but also for his courage in moments that demanded integrity and courage. He chose conviction and truth over convenience, and in doing so, affirmed the enduring value of moral leadership and integrity we so deserve as a country. His passing away reminds us, as a nation, of the legacy of those who stood firm in pursuit of justice and the common good. Dr. Obwaka will be remembered for leading his colleagues in resisting the hostile take-over of the Nairobi Hospital by the country’s chief grabber leading to his arrest and incarceration in police custody for days despite his plea that he was having health challenges and advanced age. He left police custody a broken man but stoic that there are Kenyans who cannot succumb to intimidation and police harassment. Though traumatized by the police brutality, he lived a few weeks to narrate his ordeal at the instigation of heartless and cruel grabbers of public and private property. May the Almighty God grant his family peace and comfort, and strengthen his colleagues in the medical profession during this difficult time. May the soul of Dr. Obwaka rest in eternal peace, and may perpetual light shine upon him forever.
