The U.S. military has the ability to open the Strait of Hormuz “should we choose to do it,” former CENTCOM commander Ret. Gen. Frank McKenzie says. He tells @edokeefe the Strait can be opened with an air and naval campaign and the use of ground troops would be probably used in any raids of key infrastructure. “A raid is an attack with a planned withdrawal where you don't plan to stay. The one exception might be Kharg Island,” McKenzie says. “I think Kharg Island is a very lucrative target and I'm sure we're looking at it hard right now. I have no idea if we're going to go up there.”

Two separate Iranian strikes on the towns of Dimona and Arad in southern Israel wounded nearly 200 people after missile defense systems failed to intercept them, Israeli officials said. Dimona is the site of Israel's main nuclear facility, and believed to be the center of its undeclared nuclear weapons program. The latest strikes highlight concerns in Israel that it may be running low on missile interceptors. @charliecbs has the latest from Arad.
