Cutting losses fast isn’t a mindset rule. It’s a structural rule. A trade isn’t wrong just because it goes negative. It’s wrong when structure breaks. That level is defined before entry. The stop sits at invalidation not where it feels comfortable. When price reaches that level, the trade is done. No delay. No adjustment. That’s what “cut losses fast” actually means. Most traders do the opposite. They close early out of fear or hold too long hoping it comes back. Both break consistency. A clean model is simple. If structure holds, stay. If it breaks, exit. Nothing in between. Looking at your last losses did you exit at invalidation, or based on emotion?

@chartfanatics I needed to read this, thank you. I always place my stop-loss order after the entry candle of my trade; I'll let you guess what usually happens. (And even when things are going well, I tend to close the position for fear of seeing a candle reversing my entry.)

Q on your stop should never be more than ATR. This is actually pretty decent setup if you were ready to buy it opening range highs, now there's no entry here but this is a pretty decent one. Momentum leader, high ADR, surfing that rising 20 day and you know it had this tight range and it was breaking out on high volume but the entry was like sub 1.80 definitely sub 185 was the entry, the average true range on this thing is 16 cents, so today's low is 172 so your entry was no higher than let's see 188. No higher than 188 should have been your entry because one of my rules is that the stop shouldn't be higher than the average true range.
