I just taught my first class since Charlie Kirk's assassination. We spoke about the attack for more than an hour. My students at @lipscomb, to a person (and regardless of whether they were on the right or the left), engaged thoughtfully and mournfully. There wasn't a hint of celebration or vengeance. Instead, there was lament. Do not think for a moment that the dysfunction we see on this website -- or on viral videos -- is the whole story. There are so many good people in this country (and on campus). May their voices win the day.

That's my experience as well. Every one of my Democratic friends is in a state of shock and dismay. The dominant response across the political spectrum is the same. We can't let the worst voices define how we respond to this moment. They are the fringe. Treat them like it.

I’ve been hearing that grotesque things have been posted on social media - but when I’ve called my friends (Democrats, almost to a person) not one has expressed anything but horror and deep dismay. And I’ve seen many such posts on this social network from people on the left.

To my friends on the right: A few months after an assassination attempt on the Democratic Governor of PA, and 60 days or so after the assassination of a MN Democratic state legislator, if your reaction to yesterday’s assassination of a right wing media figure is “screw you Joe, only the left engages in violence,” you are factually dead wrong, you’re incapable of putting your country first, and the political violence from ALL sides will only continue. If your reaction to yesterday is to declare “war on the left,” shame on you. YOU are the problem. Be better. Put your country first.

Facts! The funny thing about this is they always talk about how folks make everything about race, but they use Sowell against black folks & recommend him BECAUSE of his race. They also act like he’s the final authority. There are other black economists/sociologist who disagree.
