This is such bullshit. $350/yr is 35 physical album sales, that's the whole model that is now being pushed, why are streams even mentioned? This is just another reason for business people to take a % from artists as opposed to charging a flat fee. It's arguably worse than the old record label model because back then the value was higher and labels had connections with media, radio, etc that could not be accessed by an independent artist. Everything this platform offers can EASILY be accessed by an artist.

No gotcha taken, this is exactly the conversation worth having. Most artists never make a dollar from streaming. So asking them to spend hundreds to thousands to go direct-to-consumer can be a lot to ask. That's why EVEN is free. No subscription, no hosting. Shopify runs $350/yr on the annual plan. An artist needs about 100K streams to cover that, and if they want Billboard chart eligibility, they're paying extra through third-party apps. We only make money when you make money. Helping an artist make $100 and us making $20 feels better to us than an artist paying $350 a year while only earning $100. Our 20% covers payment processing, currency conversion in 140+ currencies, auto-payouts to PROs + the MLC, marketing resources and assets, 100% of customer support, and Fan Connect (SMS and email to your fans, built in). this isn’t a gotcha, just somethin that’s been confusing for me to watch but paying 20% on all revenue for y’all to host an artists work that their fans can buy is indirect to consumer, not direct to consumer lol direct to consumer means no middleman. y’all are the middleman and take 20% for it. Shopify is like $39/mo + 3% per sale. a domain is like $15/yr. basically an artist can bypass this and get a website and sell directly to their fans just food for thought

@BrianZisook I think the implication is they're booking 400 cap venues, not selling them out. Plenty of artists leverage their monthly listeners for opportunities way above their real-world weight class — often for optics I imagine.
