We're a little over 1 yr into researching & writing the 1st installment of a 2-book series on the 1936 Flood & Hurricane Agnes (1972). Someone in the📚business advised me to create an account (separate from @Bilder_CEM) to keep ppl updated on progress by @Jacob_Feuer & I 🧵👇

A couple yrs ago I connected w/ a descendant of George E. Gore - one of the journalists whose footage is included in this newsreel. She has been very helpful w/ my book on the overall #1936Flood, which will highlight the remarkable story of the “the 2nd Johnstown Flood.”

How many compounding factors do you see in this newsreel 🎥 about the #1936Flood? The events depicted happened 90 yrs ago this week. The compounding nature of the flood & the historic winter of 1935/36 that led to it will be a major theme in my book 📕🌊

History made at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) with a 66 mph wind gust! It's officially the 4th strongest wind gust on record that wasn't caused by a thunderstorm. For comparison, the top gust ever was 83 mph (July 10, 1992) from a thunderstorm.

Tragically, Melissa, which made landfall in Jamaica last October as a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane, deserves retirement. At least 95 people in the Caribbean & South FL lost their lives (both directly & indirectly). The record books speak to Melissa’s horrific intensity. /end

🌀Hurricane History News📰Melissa is the 100th name to be retired in the Atlantic. Melissa first became an option in 2007 as part of “List V” (ie the 5th of 6 lists in the 6-yr rotation of names). Melissa replaced Michelle, which was retired after the 2001 season. More in🧵👇1/4

#HurricaneMelissa was the strongest hurricane to ever make landfall in Jamaica. Now that 'Melissa' has been retired, @MetserviceJA's Evan Thompson, said, "Jamaica would not have liked to constantly recount the trauma that was visited on us in 2025.” 📰bit.ly/4shPDrQ

Well, that was a bit of a surprise. Some March lightning, followed by thunder just seconds ago that lasted for about 20 seconds. #pawx @NWSStateCollege

Even 60 years later, we are trying to learn more about this tornado and pin down the specific path it traveled. If you or someone you know has accounts from this tornado, we would love to hear from you.

Upon further review, Melissa was stronger than we thought.

#BREAKING: Hurricane #Melissa has been upgraded to a Category 5 Hurricane with 190 MPH - tying Hurricane Allen for the strongest hurricane on record in the Atlantic Basin in terms of wind. The pressure of 892mb is historic as well, tying the 1935 Labor Day hurricane for the 3rd lowest pressure on record, only behind Hurricane Wilma and Gilbert. The National Hurricane Center completed their post-season report on Melissa and found it was even stronger than originally thought. 🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀

Finished, well in advance, my AAG Presentation. I will revisit it as the meeting approaches, got 21 very good slides, ideally want to eliminate 2 of them but I could keep all 21.

I had a corporate gig last night along the rivers and watched the fog roll in from the ice and ice melt. Here is the ice and fog on the slowly melting Allegheny River last night.
