The problem wasn’t the squad selection it was the retreat into defensive mode and the failure to activate back out of that. The players we had on the pitch were absolutely capable of competing and we saw that in the first 55 minutes. It was a mentality issue not a talent one.

@WeAreTheOverlap Spot on, also the majority of players he brought had been run in to the ground by their clubs. Often leaving us quite sloppy in possession and not able to press and win the ball back - something we say in the first couple friendlies and game against Croatia.

For me, if you’re the FA you just strike now while Guardiola is available. With the greatest respect I don’t feel like the position can worsen, but the potential rewards are worth shelling out the money. England can do little better than they did. Not saying they’re Spain.

A team will often drop back for a little bit as the team that conceded looks to react and apply some pressure. A storm to be weathered. But eventually unless you’re playing incredibly defensive things can level off. Tuchel could have addressed it at the hydration break too.
