I came to the United States legally at the age of five, and I believe in compassionate justice that honors both opportunity and the rule of law. Under my leadership, we will secure our borders while creating a fair, legal pathway for those who are already contributing to our communities. If you came here illegally but have no criminal record, have worked hard, and are not dependent on government assistance, you can self-deport and be fast-tracked for legal reentry. Last month in Washington, D.C., I was reminded how grateful I am to live in the United States—a nation built on the separation of powers. Our three branches of government exist to protect freedom and ensure that no one branch becomes too powerful. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld religious liberty, siding with us when the government attempted to restrict the freedom to worship. It was a difficult battle, but the Constitution gave us the right to stand up, speak out, and have our day in court.
