No way around it, this was a disastrous series that erases a ton of good work from the prior month. The only positive is that the good position they were in has them at .500 after this mess, not well below it. It’s still so early but stopping the bleeding this weekend is big.

Spent some time reviewing Drew Allar tape and listening to others I respect break down Penn States offense as a whole My take away so far is Penn State failed him. The main question is can he be fixed. With great coaching maybe they have something. Hopefully not too far gone.

Say what you want about Mlodzinski’s stuff, or how he grades out in Stuff+, in 4 of 6 starts this year, he’s failed to complete 5.0 innings. Pirates depth is razor thin. Jared Jones’ return is welcomed. And the Pirates can’t trade for a veteran starter fast enough.

Last two Carmen starts are what we feared with him all along. No doubt he belongs in the pen but no better fifth starter option at the moment. Jones can be there eventually but SP depth could be an issue if anyone goes down
