If there's one thing I've learnt in my short time photographing birds, it's that wherever there's a Long Tailed Tit, there's a twig in the way.

A beautiful natural light makes it's annual appearance in Edinburgh so I locate the best possible bird as a model.

This thing rocked up on my local pond this morning. A bit Mallardy but not entirely.

Having spent some time trying to figure out juvenile gulls, I can't figure out what this is. 2nd year Lesser Black Backed Gull?

@MarburyBirds Apparently you can tell if you can count the primaries, red kite always has 5 and you might see a 6th on black kite. Look for "Wing Formula" for definitive description.

As you know, my raptor identification is hit & miss and my photos leave a lot to be desired, but a few people have mentioned that they thought my "Red Kite" looks more like a Black Kite!? I wish I'd run out the house quicker to get better photos, as we will probably never know!

A Little Grebe, taken yesterday in my local park pond. I went back today to take more photos the because the light was much better and he's evaporated. This is the way of the grebe.
