For 10 years, CCF has been working in Somaliland to combat the illegal wildlife trade and care for confiscated cheetah cubs. What began with emergency care in temporary safe houses has grown into the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) — built in partnership with the Somaliland Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC), across 800 hectares of land. In 2023, 89 rescued cheetahs were safely relocated to the centre, a major milestone made possible by global support. Since then, survival rates have improved dramatically, and the CRCC continues to provide long-term care, veterinary support, and space for cheetahs that cannot return to the wild. But this work is complex. Every cheetah in our care represents one taken from the wild, a reminder of why this mission matters. Together, we are not just responding to a crisis. We are building the conditions for fewer cheetahs to be taken in the future. 🚨Miguel Ángel de la Torre Loranca debe ser localizado con vida. El 21 de noviembre de 2025, el biólogo Miguel Ángel de la Torre Loranca, fue privado de su libertad en la localidad de Comalapa, municipio de Zongolica, Veracruz.  Desde esa fecha, su paradero es desconocido. Tras la desaparición, personas vinculadas al delito de extorsión se comunicaron con un familiar para exigir un rescate.  La familia realizó una entrega inicial con el objetivo de preservar la vida de  Miguel Ángel de la Torre Loranca. Desde entonces no ha existido nueva comunicación. La denuncia fue presentada y se ha entregado información relevante a las autoridades competentes.  Al día de hoy, 31 de diciembre de 2025, no se han informado avances verificables ni se tiene conocimiento de acciones concretas de búsqueda. Su familia, amigos y colegas piden apoyo para visualizar el caso. Se hace un llamado público a la Gobernadora del estado de Veracruz, Rocío Nahle, para que intervenga de manera directa y garantice la coordinación inmediata de nla Fiscalía General del Estado de Veracruz. Ya que el Presidente Municipal de Zongolica, Ignacio Ramírez Flores, ha minimizado el caso. Miguel Ángel de la Torre Loranca debe ser localizado con vida.

Approximately two weeks, CCF received information on two young #cheetah cubs in the northeastern part of Somaliland destined for the illegal wildlife trade - if they survived. In partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC), Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) quickly mobilized a rescue team to get the cubs as soon as possible. By 7 pm the following evening, the cubs were safely back at the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) in Geed-Deeble, receiving expert care. Thanks to the dedication and expertise of the team at the CRCC, the tiny cubs were stabilized and are growing fast! The illegal wildlife trade continues to devastate #wild cheetah populations in the Horn of Africa. According to estimates, less than 500 #cheetahs remain in the wild in Horn of Africa – and in 2023, the Northeast African cheetah (the subspecies found in the region) was uplisted to #endangered. Most of the cheetah cubs removed from the wild as part of the illegal #wildlife trade do not survive the traumatic conditions experienced while being trafficked. Want to help stop the trade? @princesafacha @DimeFred2 Nada parecido a mi experiencia en Bacalar. Los taxis tienen tarifas fijas de entre 20 y 30 pesos. La gente super atenta en todos lados. Restaurantes de todos los niveles. A mi me encantó Mr Taco.

@DimeFred2 Me está sucediendo lo mismo pero en #Bacalar he visto lo groseros que son los taxistas y los precios elevados en los recorridos, al igual que en restaurantes, mal servicio e incluso cobran por alimentos que no consumes, inflan la cuenta. Asco de lugar.
