SpaceX is preparing for Starship Flight Test 12, expected no earlier than May 19, 2026, from Starbase, Texas. The mission is widely described as the debut of the upgraded “Version 3” Starship architecture, featuring redesigned vehicles, improved Raptor 3 engines, payload deployment tests, and advanced heat-shield experiments.

Starship Flight Test 12: The Dawn of Version 3 SpaceX is gearing up for one of its most significant Starship milestones yet. Flight Test 12 is currently targeting launch as soon as Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. CT from the brand-new Pad 2 at Starbase, Texas. This isn’t just another test — it’s the debut of Starship Version 3, the most advanced and capable iteration of the world’s largest and most powerful rocket system ever built What to ExpectThe mission profile builds on recent successes while pushing the envelope:Super Heavy Booster (Booster 19): Full ascent, hot-staging separation, boostback burn, and a controlled landing burn — aiming for a soft splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico. (No tower catch on this first V3 flight.) Starship Upper Stage (Ship 39): Ascent into space, in-orbit engine relight, deployment of 22 Starlink simulator satellites (the heaviest payload yet for a test flight), plus two special imaging satellites that will photograph the heat shield from outside. Reentry & Landing: A daring controlled descent with intentional stress tests on the flaps, a dynamic banking maneuver, and a targeted splashdown. One heat shield tile has even been deliberately removed to study real-world damage effects. This flight is packed with firsts: new Raptor 3 engines (more powerful and lighter), stretched tanks, improved avionics, docking ports for future refueling, and a redesigned launch pad built for rapid reuse. Every element is engineered with one goal in mind — full, rapid reusability that will unlock lunar landings, Mars missions, and massive orbital infrastructure. Each Starship flight test delivers critical data that accelerates development. Flight 12 represents a major leap toward operational reliability for deep-space exploration, in-orbit propellant transfer, and eventually sending humans to the Moon and beyond. The world will be watching as this stainless-steel giant lights up the South Texas sky once again. Whether it flies on the 19th or in the following days, history is about to be made.Stay tuned — the countdown is on. Source: Official SpaceX mission updates

Some unvarnished thoughts from our Utah GOP State Central Committee (SCC) meeting yesterday in Lehi, and the underlying, unrecognized ethos that is contributing to our political decline at scale, especially in “disagree better” Utah. At every meeting since beginning my term, we have struggled with the zoom-option, which usually makes up 1/3 of the attendance. It was the brainchild of covid, but state and national legislatures have all returned to strict in-person attendance requirements to do deliberative business because of a host of difficulties it causes (which is a whole side-subject itself). Proposals to eliminate Zoom at our SCC meetings, however, always come a few votes shy of restricting or eliminating it out of concerns for all of those with exigent circumstances. The body is regularly regaled with pleas for compassion about funerals, important business, illness, or for those who just plain live far away from the meetings. All who weigh in, to a person, admit that it is better to attend in person, BUT, life happens, so we need be accepting of the Zoom option out of kindness. Those things all existed before 2020 when attendance was mandatory. The penalty for not attending was to be marked absent, and business carried on without the members who didn’t come. Enough absence could cost a member their seat on the SCC. Was it rude and unfair back then to penalize lack of in person attendance? The ethos guiding our policy to maintain the Zoom option is empathy and compassion. What could possibly be wrong with that? The answer is hiding in plain sight. Empathy and compassion are local virtues that do not scale up politically. Two examples: “from each according to his ability, to each according to his need” is normal and useful in a growing family with children. But politically, it litters history with smoldering piles of bones in communist revolutions. And, having compassion for a violent criminal is local in the sense that we don’t aspire to allow for cruel and unusual punishments in their handling, but policies that release violent criminals out of compassion for them just causes more victims. The governing body of the GOP has a significant upstream effect on policy in Utah. It is a deliberative body that governs the party and is a layer of organization that functions as a mechanism of self-government. We should want the governing body to be as serious as we would want the governing bodies to be who make the laws we live by. The hybrid meeting format of in-person and online attendance hampers that “seriousness” significantly. It is a feel-good measure that scales up empathy from the localized interpersonal relationships we have with fellow-members to the political machinations of Utah’s GOP. I attended one SCC meeting via Zoom while at a funeral in Phoenix. Glad everyone on the SCC was empathetic for my loss, but I guarantee you, I was not helpful to the meeting, to my constituents, or to my family with whom I was splitting my time. (I am fully admitting that doing both was a selfish decision on my part). If we were resolute, more respectful to the process, and a little less self-important, we would end Zoom attendance once and for all. Please enjoy Jordan Peterson describing the role of empathy as a virtue and its misuse in politics below, 31-39 minutes: youtu.be/m281h5wZLb4?si…

🚨New: Utah “Republican” Congressman Blake Moore said redistricting will be bad news for Republicans in 2028: “I don’t think this is good for Republicans in 2028 and beyond. Because once New York and Illinois and Virginia get their ducks in a row, legally, they’ll obliterate our ability to have a majority.”
