Shadow Ticket seems to partially be about how it is your fate to live in a particular historical moment, incapable of viewing it in its proper context. in much the same way it is the fate of all recent Pynchon to be assessed as “minor” upon release. ergo….

Scorsese has the true artist's impassioned love for the human face, the more ravaged & eccentric, the better.
visually, often captivating. though it is hard to disagree with those who complain of its length, much-reiterated themes. none of it seemed "new" but perhaps that was the point? we begin in a facility for the aged & impaired, & look back upon a scrappy life still awaiting definition, meaning as the moviemaker looks back upon his life making movies. Di Niro, crucial to Scorsese's career, has to be cast, "de-aged"--the soul of the film...

You could make an incredible biopic of a Motown session player with an interesting story because nobody is going to know it, won't get hung up on stupid details, and meanwhile holy shit there's Berry Gordy in the fabric of our hero's life.

Serious answer for a good music biopic: stop featuring headliners, start featuring session and bit players. Raging Bull and Amadeus are probably the two most acclaimed biopics ever because they're about minor figures orbiting Titans and moving through History.
