I used to recruit for a CFO who only wanted Ivy League candidates with high grade point averages. He was a book smart type of guy, but seemed out of touch w/ what candidates have done post college. Many of the top candidates he pursued, didn't do well post hire. Time and time again - I've seen self-taught geniuses and adversity warriors outshine the textbook perfect. Find the ones who take pride in showing you what problems they have solved OR worked thru school to pay for their college OR just started working and solving problems and didn't go to college. I'm always surprised when I come across a hiring manager who still focuses on the school logo and GPA.
