🇲🇨 1985 Rallye Automobile de Monte-Carlo
Car 2
Ari Vatanen and Terry Harryman in their Peugeot 205 T16.
The crew would have a very eventful rally after a 8 minute time penalty caused by booking in early at a time control but would make an astonishing comeback to beat Rohrl and Geistdörfer by 5mins 17secs.
One of the best Ari drives?
What a crew and what a car 🔥

🥉 🇧🇷 Ayrton Senna - McLaren MP4/5B V10
The headline of the weekend was the performance of the Leyton House-Judd team.
After failing to even qualify for the previous race in Mexico, drivers Ivan Capelli and Maurício Gugelmin shocked the paddock by running 1st and 2nd for a significant portion of the race.
While the top teams (McLaren and Ferrari) stopped for fresh Goodyear tires, Leyton House gambled on running the entire race distance without a pit stop.
Gugelmin eventually retired with engine issues, but Capelli led until just three laps from the finish.
Ultimately, the superior power and fresh rubber of the Ferrari allowed Alain Prost to overtake Capelli in the closing stages.
Still an amazing result for Ivan Capelli and the Leyton House team 👏🏻

The 1986 Mexico GP was the first race return to Mexico since 1970. Held at the newly renamed Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, the race was the penultimate round of the 1986 season and is best remembered for a masterclass in tire management.
Gerhard Berger took his first career victory, which was also the first-ever win for the Benetton team.
While the frontrunners (Alain Prost, Nelson Piquet, and Nigel Mansell) were forced to pit multiple times due to extreme tire blistering on the abrasive surface, Berger completed the entire 68-lap race on a single set of Pirelli tires.
The Mexico circuit was an absolute beast. Very bumpy and with the extremely fast last corner onto the very long straight it was a test for the driver and the machine.

🇲🇨 1979 Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo
Overall results 🏁

Bernard Darniche and Alain Mahé - Lancia Stratos HF
🥈Car 2
Bjorn Waldegård and Hans Thorszelius - Ford Escort RS.
🥉 Markku Alen and Ilkka Kivimaki - Fiat 131 Abarth
The 1979 Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo, held from January 20 to January 26, 1979, was the opening round of the inaugural World Rally Championship for Drivers.
It remains one of the most dramatic and controversial finishes in the history of the event, defined by a legendary comeback from Bernard Darniche and a rock incident that cost Björn Waldegård the win by only 6 seconds.
The controversy to the Ford Drivers
Early in the event, Ford's Hannu Mikkola took the lead but was quickly derailed by a controversial five-minute penalty. Local police alleged he had "overtaken dangerously," though no clear evidence was provided.
SS29: Villars-sur-Var 2, the penultimate stage of the rally.
Waldegård rounded a left-hand corner and was confronted by two large boulders placed strategically on the road. He managed to dodge the first but struck the second, which was positioned just right of the road center.
The car hit the rock and became momentarily stuck on top of it. Waldegård and his co-driver, Hans Thorszelius, had to jump out of the car to physically free it.
The crew would then lose the rally by just 6 seconds after the final stage.

The bonkers San Marino GP #OTD 85. 3 different leaders in the last 5 laps and none of them won. That was Elio De Angelis who never led a lap. Prost took the flag but DSQ because his car was underweight.

"And now perhaps one of the most painful & meaningful moments of this ceremony. That helmet... besides being a personal symbol of Senna, is almost a national symbol, one adopted unofficially by all Brazilian citizens."
