@CoachSwit I can’t disagree with wanting strikes. I have a son who does this… and does great in high school. But no colleges seem to want his 82-84 mph fastball… even though he gets outs. So he will never get an opportunity to pitch in college. But if he threw harder?

I’ve won a lot of games coaching HS baseball believing & following this: Quality Strikes Beat Velocity. Strike percentage, first-pitch strikes, & locating to both sides win games. HS hitters struggle far more with pitchers who change speeds and hit spots than those chasing velo.

@SalimH8881 @FightHaven We need to understand context. If the person getting their ass kicked had it coming I think this helps the person losing this fight learn to not fuck around and find out. And if the girl losing this fight didn’t deserve it we have a societal problem of protecting the innocent.

@FightHaven Wow, that's a horrifying incident! It's disheartening to see bystanders not taking immediate action to help their classmate.

@Seth_3773 If we flipped this into a parents response at failing two classes at school would you all hate the response the same way?

This is a long one, Parents, (and coaches) when you are this negative and aggressive when your children/Players are this young, that tone becomes that child’s inner voice for the rest of their lives. Meaning, when the player needs to perform at anything not just athletics, you attacking him is the voice inside his head. I’m all for being honest and hard on kids. I tell my children that they don’t put enough work in when needed but As a parent you have to watch what your putting into that child. (Especially this young) This dad is releasing his frustration on his child he isn’t teaching him that he needs to work harder/smarter. Also, notice there wasn’t instruction. There wasn’t “Get ready” “Stay Back” “set your feet” nothing, it was just “do better” “you missed it right down the middle” The child, I’m sure is trying. It sounds like he wants to be out there, he knows he’s missing, teach him why. This is also a typical dad/bad coach approach. I feel bad for both child and father in this situation. The best advice I can give the dad at this point is that he needs to get private instruction for his kid (and probably some counseling) , he as a father is not able to productively help his son get better. Eventually this kid will crack.

Imagine a young child playing baseball trying to make his dad proud only to be torn to shreds because he is having a bad bp sesh. This is sad, and a perfect example of terrible parenting. This is the exact opposite of what to do if you want to see your son excel in baseball.

@FatherOf4Lunas So I home school my six year old. And yesterday he pretended he didn’t know any words or sounds of the alphabet. He WAS being lazy. So I punished him for his laziness. It sounded very similar to this father. We have no idea what lesson this father is trying to teach.

@Wendi_Irlbeck Hey Wendi love the posts? Curious as to the differences between teenage girls and boys with adding muscle mass. I have heard a good target for boys is a pound a week. What’s a good target for a female teenage athlete?

@nextlevelbb That was the coaches words. If you miss spring break practice, you will be suspended. So don't tell me I am clueless. Guess what happened to 99% of those kids who missed out on family vacations to go to practice. Their lacrosse careers ended with the last game of their Sr yr.

@LantzWheeler So I have one that seems to be really helping my athletes feel what it’s like to get more hip shoulder separation. It’s a partner medball toss where the athlete lets the weight of the medball help them feel what it’s like to coil as they stride forward. We radar gun every throw

@clongbaseball For sure this is the better option. And if you have total control over how all kids are taught to throw I am totally on board. But as a recent little league coach who wanted to implement driveline throwing warmups at all little league practices… it’s super hard to get buy in.
