@Brother_O4 @BMKing23 Please stop getting your understanding of what optimization means from twitter and YouTube

@BMKing23 It’s not that the game wasn’t design with RT in mind, it’s that it was optimization and actually did the work. Thus the difference between RT and non RT is tiny for a big hit.

Ray Tracing in #DeathStranding2PC is quite limited, which is expected since the game wasn’t originally built with RT in mind and this is the first implementation on the Decima Engine. RT reflections only apply to some opaque surfaces, bodies of water and tar, and they still lean on standard SSR underneath. The High RT setting uses High SSR as a base, which lets it slightly outperform the heavier Very High SSR in many scenes, but it also shows more noise, especially with upscaling. RTAO, as usual is very subtle visually and doesn’t seem to impact performance at least in the scenes I tested. It mainly just bumps up VRAM usage.

@Chettlar @DavidFrost95 @opinali @geysergod_ Loud rejection is certainly a better option than just quietly accepting it. Even if it only makes investors just a little bit uncomfortable, that's still positive towards the overal goal.

Daniel got important clarifications from NVIDIA. TLDR: the "DLSS5 skeptical" were right about *everything*. 1⃣ It's a 2D AI Filter. Input is only color buffer & motion vectors. The model doesn't see geometry, lights, PBR properties, normals, anything🧵 youtu.be/D0EM1vKt36s

@LanceOmikron @DavidFrost95 @opinali @geysergod_ In this case their priorities are that this makes their investors don't get cold feet about having invested into AI, by pretending it's actually useful, and their AI side is all Nvidia cares about right now.

Thanks so much, @cerny! Thrilled to see @AMD FSR Upscaling 4.1 delivering stunning results in PC games, built on the same neural network foundation as the upgraded PSSR for PS5 Pro. Project Amethyst has been an absolute pleasure and a true co-engineering success with you and the @PlayStation team. Grateful for the partnership, onward to more graphics breakthroughs! 🚀

Just tried FSR Upscaling 4.1 in a few PC games. It’s based on the same neural network as the upgraded PSSR we released for PS5 Pro… and it looks stunning! Wonderful working with @jackhuynh and the @AMD team as we collaborate on AI graphics tech. Big win for Project Amethyst :-)

@DavidFrost95 @opinali @geysergod_ @Chettlar ...Yes, we do. Unlike them, we can use our eyes and can tell that the output looks like trash. We can tell that this is not something we want in the games that we buy, nor do we want it to impact component prices in the way that it surely will.

@ptlemic @geysergod_ @DavidFrost95 @opinali We could just give it that information directly, which would be harder to do, but would actually be impressive, and would eliminate the weakness this tech has while allowing it to do what it's good at.

@ptlemic @geysergod_ @DavidFrost95 @opinali to apply absurd amounts of training to narrow it down to be super specific, but there is a limit to how specific training can be and it will and does always introduce errors in that inference step.

@VladTheInflator @aryngomx Ehh that looks like a sleeve that fits a lil too loose that had friction on his arm for a moment. The movement is weirdly smooth but it's not very damning

@ptlemic @geysergod_ @DavidFrost95 @opinali Uh, well, information is lost in the translation from 3D to 2D. To edit a 2D scene while keeping it looking authentic to that translation you are necessarily implying new information. If you don't know the ground truth, you will suggest information that doesn't belong.

@geysergod_ @DavidFrost95 @Chettlar @opinali But the 3D data in a game engine still happens on a 2D monitor. Why wouldn't a pattern recognition engine perfectly succeed with rendering 3D images by looking solely at 2D images?

@DavidFrost95 @opinali @geysergod_ We are seeing it. We made predictions about missing information. We were correct. That means we are seeing it better than your distant, useless play for ignorance lmao

@Chettlar @opinali @geysergod_ Inference can be powerful. It’s how our brains work. Nvidia made a big claim, why isn’t the rhetoric: okay let’s see it.

@DavidFrost95 @opinali @geysergod_ Maybe get off the internet and stop arguing with people when you clearly can't handle it and are making a fool of yourself then, instead of whining to us that you don't like the general reception of this tech and taking it out on us like you're 14. Like dude.

@Chettlar @opinali @geysergod_ Sigh. I am generally tired, no matter the topic, of the general public approaching every attempt at innovation with hostility. DF getting death threats, content creators pouring gasoline on mob mentality, etc. The inventors and researchers do consider these issues.

@DavidFrost95 @rezich @geysergod_ @opinali I mean couldn't even evaluate the situation right in front of you by injecting past information into it, so I'm not confident in the value of that memory. Especially given the comparison literally doesn't make sense. Nvidia didn't hide anything and your contention is we said so.
