@echipiuk Great post, there are only two outcomes to hearing an opposing opinion, you strengthen your own or learn something and change your view. There is no downside.

It is strange that simply calling for respectful discussion, focusing on the substance of issues, and not emotionally attacking people somehow makes one “the adult in the room” these days. But if that is what it takes, I will take it. It is concerning how far we have moved away from respectful debate and disagreement. Particularly from those in elected office, public servants, and members of the legal profession, who should be setting the standard for how serious disagreements are handled in a democratic society. You do not have to agree with someone to engage with their argument honestly. You do not strengthen your position by mocking, smearing, silencing, or dehumanizing people. You strengthen it by being able to defend it with facts, logic, evidence, and open discussion. Democracy depends on citizens being able to disagree without treating each other as enemies. And our institutions become weaker when the people entrusted to lead them contribute to division instead of modeling maturity, professionalism, and respectful debate. Don’t get me wrong, I get fired up too. Believe me!!! I care deeply about many of these issues and really cannot stomach vulnerable people being taken advantage of. But how you channel that frustration is the difference. We cannot keep rewarding emotional outrage while abandoning thoughtful discussion, critical thinking, and respectful debate. If we want better conversations in this country, we have to start modeling them ourselves. So if I could ask one thing, let’s try to elevate the conversation. Because when we do, the people around us will have to elevate theirs as well.

Carney asked Tuesday why gas prices have soared to $2 per litre when Canada produces lots of oil domestically. In other words, why do gas prices in Canada reflect global price of oil? Doesn't really answer but stock response I suppose would be that if we set price controls on oil, it would damage investment in the oil patch.

@ExnerPirot @Coffey4Canada2 You are comparing an infrastructure project to serve the people for convenience to infrastructure that supports tens of thousands of jobs that in turn produce hundreds of millions of tax revenue not to mention royalties from the commodity itself.

@ChrisMartzWX I don’t know how many times I’ve heard the “China is green” argument. All one has to do is look at existing and new coal plants to realize it’s a bunk argument.

China isn't turning into a “green superpower.” Any renewable energy systems they're installing only add to existing energy sources; they are not replacing fossil fuels at all. China is increasing their use of ALL energy.

@cactus12345 @ezralevant Jo Jo, you’re making my point for me. There’s no doubt it’s bizarre the files weren’t released by the Biden admin, but again, you’re excusing one awful act with (a seemingly much lesser) awful act

To be fair, it was a narrow win. But, I am just having a fun time dunking on all of the people who have been dunking on the U.S. because their stage four TDS has filled their hearts with so much hatred. I like most of the Canadian people I have met or interacted with online, and have enjoyed my two visits there in the past. This is just a little trolling. Don’t take stuff so seriously.

@QuadAxel3Toe Because most “winter sports” aren’t widely played in Canada. In winter Canadians play hockey, basketball and football a LOT of swimming. The other sports aren’t that big in Canada

@andrew_leach This is the fastest way to another NDP government. “BLOC Alberta” may get 20% of the party, even 25, and the remainder of the UCP will form the official opposition. Ugh.

@MeghanEMurphy Seriously? Take a look at our relative trade. The US is utterly dependent on trade with us. They have no alternative mechanism to get oil to the Midwest, they lack uranium, potash, nickel, cobalt and graphite without us. Their industry would collapse without Canadian trade

Imagine believing this. Like Venezuela and Greenland don't have any geopolitical purpose whatsoever. These people who have never had to contend with real decision-making in their lives love to pretend that there's nothing to it.
Robyn Urback@RobynUrback

I think the mistake many have made in regards to Trump is overestimating him: believing he is playing 3D chess, or that he is governed by strategy, morality, clear geopolitical incentives, etc. When really, it comes down to “I didn’t get my prize, so I’m invading Greenland”

@AdamMGrant This is true for sure, unfortunately the current systems will either force kids out or discourage them enough to quit before the skills and physicality raise them up. It is so frustrating, and it is largely parents that are the problem.

Early specialization is overrated. Generalists excel over time. Data on >34k stars in sports, music, science, and chess: Focusing on a single field predicts a faster rise, but cross-training foreshadows a higher peak. The most successful adults start off as well-rounded kids.

@katesarah128 @Cpt_RDubya @SteveSaretsky What value does the Aboriginal title hold then, what are their rights to the land? I don’t believe the ruling simply says it is figurative? But if what you say is true, how does fee simple coexist when it comes to ownership and value?

@Cpt_RDubya @SteveSaretsky Incorrect. Aboriginal title burdens the Crown’s underlying title, it does NOT automatically erase existing fee simple land. Fee simple owners keep their land and the Crown, not the homeowner, face compensation claims. Perhaps read the decisions related to this?

@fakeyqr @ExnerPirot In the end, “things” don’t profit, only people do. People who work for oil companies, governments (all people in Canada) who profit from the taxes and royalties paid. Check out all the facilities with oil company’s’ names on them. Don’t be daft.
