Der Russische Angriff auf die Ukraine begann 2014. Dass der Terrorstaat Russland am 24.2.2022 die Ukraine überfiel, daran tragen wir eine Mitverantwortung, denn wir setzten zu lange auf Beschwichtigung und Appeasement statt auf Abschreckung und Verteidigungswillen. Im 5. Jahr der Vollinvasion ist es weiterhin notwendig: endlich Taurus zu liefern! Weitreichende Systeme sind so viel effizienter gegen die russischen Aggressoren. Wir tragen heute auch eine Mitverantwortung für viele tote und verletzte Ukrainer und für viele Soldaten, die so lange und in großer Erschöpfung kämpfen. Auch durch unterlassene Hilfeleistung tragen wir eine Verantwortung. Solidaritätsbekundungen halten keine russischen Drohnen und Bomben auf - weitreichende Waffen schon.

I call this the spy spiral: Everyone who wants to join higher ranks has to spy on others and be spied on. To spy on other powerful people means you have to have illegal fun with them. But these activities carry exposure risks which then have to be mitigated with even more spying which creates more exposure risk. Ultimately everyone becomes a spy, can have illegal fun and is legally protected.

The software is developed by Oxygen Forensics, a U.S.-registered company that originated as Oxygen Software in Moscow in the early 2000s. In Russia, the parallel entity, MKO Systems/Mobile Forensic, has become the country’s leading platform for extracting data from phones and has been supplied to government agencies, including the FSB and Ministry of Internal Affairs, for politically sensitive prosecutions. One investor in the overarching Oxygen holding company is Eduard Bendersky, a former FSB officer and father-in-law of Maksim Yakubets, the FBI-indicted leader of the cybercriminal group Evil Corp. Yakubets’ organization is alleged to have stolen tens of millions from financial institutions, and the U.S. offered a $5 million reward for information leading to his arrest. Bendersky was also sanctioned for allegedly linking Evil Corp with Russian intelligence and helping shield its members. The U.S. CEO, Oleg Fedorov, says no employee has ever worked for the modern FSB and distances the company from Russian intelligence, but the historical and corporate ties remain. Lautman and Luchkov warn that "digital forensic tools with documented Russian corporate origins, historical ties to Moscow’s security-adjacent ecosystem, sanctioned individuals and entities, and parallel product development pathways are operating inside U.S. federal investigative systems."
