In Islam, it provides us objective reasonings that are timeless. Reminder that in Christianity, Mary was married to Joseph at the age of 12, and Isaac married Rebecca when she was 3 and he was 40 years old. So I wouldn't throw stones from a glass house :) Let me break down 'when is someone ready for marriage' in Islam in a simple way, it is less to do with a hard coded age number, because each human is different that even environmental surrounding can affect their development. Such as the fact that people are more likely to reach puberty in warmer countries. Puberty isn't the only criteria (common misconception). Maturity is another factor: -ability to discern between what is good or bad Person must be: -socially active and economically productive -that pray and fast And the marriage can only occur if it does not cause harm or return harm. (For example, a 90 year old woman could be harmed or unfit with marrying a 30 year old). So based on the 'if conditions' above, we can actually see cases where people who even reach 18 aren't even ready for marriage... Even if a woman was 30, but she doesn't have the mental and psychological maturity for motherhood. So again, age limits can be dangerous and arbitrary such as how the minimum marriage age was 12 years for females and 14 years for males under English civil law until 1753. And how in some US states in the late 19th century, the age of consent as low as 7 years old. Or even how there was a minimum legal age for marriage - that the British parliament had passed - to be 21 years... but the minimum age to be a candidate for Prime Minister was 18 years old lol. They even stated that it "was often more difficult to manage a wife than to manage a country". Again, baseless. Hope this gives more insight. God bless brother
