@SpIinterCaI The key difference is the 'Assassins creed story' and the pirate story converge in Black flag and are linked thematically throughout the game. The Assassins creed side of Valhalla just doesn't have any meaningful presence in the main story.

@ItsLazBoi I really hope it flops tbh. The $80 price tag, ultimate edition bs, and non physical release just shouldn't be normalised. $1-1.5 billion (possibly more) to make a videogame is also so ridiculous

It’s nothing new, nor is it surprising, that doesn’t mean it’s not still egregious. Lots of games pull this shit and it’s bad every single time. We should never accept this in our games, it’s absolutely absurd.

My take on Rockstar locking a few stores/some customisation behind the Ultimate Edition is a bit complicated. First of all, the idea of doing this is nothing new. They did the exact same thing with RDR2, where an entire bank robbery mission was locked behind the Ultimate Edition. It’s still not great, but it’s not this new prospect that’ll doom the industry. As for the VOLUME of content that’s locked, I think that it’s more of a testament to how much is in the base game. If they’re putting this much into the Ultimate Edition bonuses then it’s clear that the standard edition is packed too.

I like how the whole game is simply about delivering Faye's ashes, its a great background for the personal character study of Kratos and it never draws your attention away from it

This is too long of an ask as I will have to review the story overall but ultimately it comes down to how I relate to it. 2018 is about Kratos becoming an ok dad. Ragnarok is about him becoming an ok person which hits a lot harder to me. More things include how Odin is handled and how it parallels Kratos as a dad. The visual parallels in Ragnarok are easily some of the best storytelling in gaming that comes to mind. I can go on more but it’ll become a review.
