During production of Terminator 2: Judgment Day–now celebrating its 35th anniversary–the ILM CG crew shot plate reference photography on location with director James Cameron and the live action team. CG shot supervisor Lincoln Hu generously shared these images from his personal archives, which he snapped while some of T2's most iconic moments were being filmed. It was up to Lincoln and his ILM colleagues to bring the digital T-1000 character to life within these live action shots. Among the ILM team were visual effects supervisor Dennis Muren, assistant visual effects supervisor Mark Dippé, and CG animation supervisor Steve Williams, seen here alongside Hu in an early "selfie" shot in the reflection of their chrome sphere.

CERN has officially powered down the worlds largest particle collider. The Large Hadron Collider known as the LHC is a 17 mile or 27 kilometer underground ring near Geneva Switzerland. It accelerates particles to nearly the speed of light and collides them. In 2012 this facility enabled scientists to discover the Higgs boson. This particle relates to the field responsible for giving mass to other particles. The machine has now entered what CERN calls Long Shutdown 3. It is scheduled to resume operations around 2030 as the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider. The primary aim of this upgrade is not to enlarge the collider significantly. Instead it focuses on improving the machines ability to generate high quality data. In particle physics luminosity measures the rate of particle collisions over time. Higher luminosity increases opportunities to detect rare phenomena that may point to new physics beyond current understanding. Currently the LHC detectors record about 60 proton proton collisions per bunch crossing. Following the upgrade this figure is expected to increase to between 140 and 200. Throughout its operational life the upgraded collider could generate approximately 380 million Higgs bosons. This represents a substantial rise from the roughly 55 million produced since the LHC began operations. A key objective involves detecting rare events where two Higgs bosons are created simultaneously. Such observations could provide deeper insights into the behavior of the Higgs field and offer information about conditions in the early universe following the Big Bang. The project includes replacing major detector components installing advanced timing systems and upgrading roughly 0.75 miles or 1.2 kilometers of magnets and other infrastructure within the LHC. CERN has confirmed that this work poses no risk of destroying the universe. Natural cosmic rays produce far more energetic collisions than those at the LHC. These rays have bombarded Earth and objects in space for billions of years without incident.

Long before Mexico City existed, the magnificent city of Tenochtitlan ruled the Valley of Mexico. I think one of the greatest moments in history to witness would be the height of Tenochtitlan in the early 1500s, before Hernán Cortés and the Spanish conquistadors conquered and destroyed the city. Seeing one of the world’s most remarkable urban centers at its peak would be an unforgettable experience. When the Spanish first arrived in 1519, Tenochtitlan was among the largest cities on Earth, with an estimated population of 200,000 to 300,000—larger than most European capitals of the era. Built on an island in Lake Texcoco, it was connected to the mainland by three massive causeways equipped with removable bridges for defense. A network of canals ran throughout the city, allowing canoes to transport people and goods so efficiently that Europeans often compared it to the “Venice of the Americas.” At the heart of the city stood the Templo Mayor, an enormous twin-temple pyramid dedicated to the gods Huitzilopochtli and Tlaloc. Surrounding it were palaces, government buildings, temples, and bustling plazas. Nearby, the Great Market of Tlatelolco drew thousands of merchants each day, offering everything from food and pottery to textiles, jewelry, and luxury goods from across Mesoamerica. The Aztecs also demonstrated extraordinary engineering and agricultural innovation. They expanded farmland using chinampas—highly productive artificial farming plots built in shallow lake waters—while aqueducts supplied the city with fresh water from nearby springs. Carefully planned neighborhoods organized by occupation and social status completed a city that combined sophisticated engineering, architecture, and urban planning, making Tenochtitlan one of the greatest achievements of the pre-Columbian world.

@JoeDirt34272 @santracrade @Rainmaker1973 Because we all evolved those traits, those genetic markers continuously survived in reproductive populations while those with traits that didn't, died off.

@Chri38354 @santracrade @Rainmaker1973 Our eyes work the tasks at hand we do. Other animals have better eye sight than us for the tasks they do. One example would be cats, their sight isn't great up close but it's superior at longer distances for track prey and they can see much better in the dark for hunting.

The human eye is one of the most complex organs in the body. Working together with the brain, it can rapidly adjust to changing light, detect motion, distinguish millions of colors, and process an enormous amount of visual information every second. Light enters through the cornea and pupil before being focused by the lens. It then passes through the vitreous humor and reaches the retina, where specialized cells convert light into electrical signals. Those signals travel through the optic nerve to the brain, which transforms them into the images you see every day. Despite centuries of advances in photography and imaging technology, the human visual system remains an extraordinary example of biological engineering.

@Windex51537239 @santracrade @Rainmaker1973 Because that's not how evolution works... things evolve based on pressures to their current state of existence. For example, genetic traits that allow an animal to hunt more efficiently and survive get passed on, while genetic traits that don't, result in death.

Chinese scientists have identified a new feathered dinosaur species, Changzhousaurus sinensis, dating back approximately 120 million years, in northeast China's Liaoning Province, offering fresh physical evidence to help unravel the evolutionary path of dinosaur flight. The study, recently published in the journal Vertebrata PalAsiatica, indicates that this dinosaur is the only known pennaraptoran -- a group closely related to modern birds -- to have simultaneously developed both large foot feathers and exceptionally long, fan-shaped tail feathers. It had around 16 tail feathers, somewhat reminiscent of a peacock's plumage.

@santracrade @Rainmaker1973 Or rather people understand how eyes evolved, which isn't by chance. 👌 Also, human eyes suck compared to some other animal's eyes... why would a creator give humans less perfect eyes? 🤣

@Rainmaker1973 the human eye is impressive, yet some still think it just happened by chance. can’t tell if they’re being naive or if they just need a better lens on reality.

@feralgames I own Alien Isolation on mobile, but I can't play it on my Pixel 10 Pro XL... one reason I upgraded my phone from the 8 Pro was for better system performance, but now it says it's not compatible with my phone, which is upsetting... 😌

Let me get this straight. Charlie Kirk was allowed to say whatever racist, misogynistic, anti-LGBTQ BS he wanted, because of free speech, but we aren’t allowed to say anything negative about Kirk for fear of retribution from Republicans, because we aren’t allowed free speech.
