Pastors, it’s Monday. Don’t resign. Instead… 1) Drink some good coffee. 2) Lift something heavy. 3) Pray honestly. 4) Be Still and Silent. 5) Sit with a safe friend. Bivocational pastors at your other job, apply these in your short breaks and lunch hour.

After spending the past 9 years planting a church in a scheme, I wonder whether the wider church needs to discuss crucial issues such as bivocational survival in ministry, trauma-informed ministry, addiction, safeguarding, housing insecurity, welfare systems, (1/4)

King Charles 2nd ask John Owen why he went to a poor area to hear a poor preacher. Owens answer,"May it please your Majesty, if I could possess the tinker's abilities to grip men's hearts, I would gladly give in exchange all my learning." 1/2

Now Roman is to Roman More hateful than a foe, And the Tribunes beard the high, And the Fathers grind the low. As we wax hot in faction, In battle we wax cold: Wherefore men fight not as they fought In the brave days of old. 2/2

Then none was for a party; Then all were for the state; Then the great man helped the poor, And the poor man loved the great: Then lands were fairly portioned; Then spoils were fairly sold: The Romans were like brothers In the brave days of old. 1/2

I had a very encouraging lunch today with @ZackEswine. He is a sweet, humble, and faithful man who has written two of the best books I am aware of that every pastor should read. Pastors, check out… -The Imperfect Pastor -Spurgeon’s Sorrows

Men forget that gifts without grace save no one’s soul, & are the characteristic of Satan himself. Grace, on the contrary, is an everlasting inheritance, &, lowly and despised as its possessor may be, will land him safe in glory. So let us strive to keep grace as the main thing.

Scotland is considered to be one of the least religious nations in Europe. As Christianity continues to shrink in Scotland, it is in our most deprived communities you are least likely to meet a Christian. Pray for more gospel churches to be established in Scotland’s schemes.

How does it happen that we Christians who are united by such powerful agencies have much greater quarrels than unbelievers? And how does it happen that in a Confederacy in which until now a fraternal love prevailed, for the sake of foreign lords violent quarrel has arisen?

When you take refuge in a Church, do not seek shelter merely in the place but in the spirit of the place. For the Church is not wall and roof but faith and life. Big John Chrysostom
