RIVERS STATE POLITICS It would be deeply unfortunate for any riverine or upland indigene in Rivers State to work against Gov Siminalayi Fubara. Barr. Nyesom Wike disrupted that delicate balance; power was expected to shift from Rotimi Amaechi, as every ethnic bloc in Rivers holds significance in the state’s political equation. Wike’s emergence was largely influenced by the untimely death of Rt. Hon. Tonye Harry, former Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, which weakened the riverine bloc and prompted support from Mama P in his favor. Today, the same Wike appears to be working toward altering that political dichotomy again by positioning an Ikwerre candidate or another non-riverine successor. At a recent meeting with APC and PDP stakeholders, he openly acknowledged that without the House of Assembly, his political survival would have been uncertain. Consequently, his alignment seems to be tilting toward figures like Martins Amaewhule and Kingsley Chinda as potential successors. It must be made clear to the public that supporting Governor Siminalayi Fubara is not merely about maintaining rotational balance but about sustaining progress and averting single ethnic dominance in Rivers State. -Jahmal of Port Harcourt

Tonye Cole, the Rivers Lagos boy, received the Rivers APC ticket in 2019. Magnus used the courts to prevent the APC from appearing on the ballot; Rotimi Amaechi never saw AwaraTomatoes coming. Magnus was a bitter loser who destroyed APC for his ego. Today, he can't run for governor because of the NNPC appointment. The worse is yet to be heard.
