SCOTUS ruled 6-3 today that the Voting Rights Act cannot compel states to draw legislative districts based on race—resolving a decades-long conflict between Section 2 and the 14th Amendment's Equal Protection Clause.
States that drew race-based maps under lower court orders will now likely have to redraw them, with major midterm implications.
