I have a genuine question about European politics for which I do not know the answer. J.D. Vance came from one of the poorest and most oppressed backgrounds in the USA, only to lift himself up and become Vice President. In modern European politics, are there similar examples? My gut is that Europe is still so class-riven that a story like J.D.'s is rare. But I may be wrong. Any knowledgeable insights appreciated.

@ChrisJBoud @GarethDavies007 I’m not so sure I said that Chris. My position is these departments need running by SMEs, who enter politics, not career politicians who have no expertise. It is clear both Labour and the Conservatives have run out of runway. Change is needed.
