@cselley He’s entitled to a review, but there’s a 0% chance that the Parole Board will release him.

@IanRunkle @modus_pwnenz @MichaelPlaxton Stanley literally kicked the taillights of the vehicle as it drove away. The Crown firearms expert did NOT say the firearm discharged accidentally. Of all the millions of places the “accidentally” discharged bullet could have gone, it just happened to hit Boushie in back of head

This makes it sound as if it would be proportional to fire a gun at people merely because they were stealing things from your house. That's highly unlikely. The better point is that people who break into your house *may* (under some circumstances) reasonably be thought to pose a threat to you or your family's safety, and so you may act in defence of *person* - and it is more likely that firing a gun at people is proportional when they pose a threat to life and limb.

BREAKING: York Police have charged a 35-year-old home owner for discharging a firearm at criminals attempting to steal his vehicle. Police claim the home owners actions were “not proportional to the threat,” because the suspects weren't attempting to break into the home. #cdnpoli

@modus_pwnenz @MichaelPlaxton No. Boushie’s companion was committing property crime. Stanley grabbed gun and ran after fleeing vehicle, which crashed into one of Stanley’s parked vehicles. Stanley then “accidentally” shot Boushie without seeing gun in vehicle. Stanley never claimed defence of person.

@modus_pwnenz I think pointing/firing into the ground likely represent the limit for typical defence of property cases. And even pointing is debatable - likely depends on whether the gun is loaded, has the safety on, etc.

@modus_pwnenz I'm not saying the Code expressly rules it out. But realistically there is no way, given the case authorities that preceded the new provisions.

Very sad to hear the passing of my legendary Novice/Atom goalie coach, @HuskiesMHKY @GoalTec45 legend Mike Langen. A super kind man who was the best with young players. Legends never die.

@alysanmati He’s learned from this experience only because it’s politically expedient to do so.

@DanielBrownLaw Certainly a black eye for 1/2 of the criminal justice system (Crown Attorney’s office and police), but a clear, big, bright, long-lashed, beautiful eye for the other half (defence counsel and the Court).

Here’s my take on the Zameer case. Despite reaching the correct result, this case is a black eye for the criminal justice system.

Everyone should watch what Umar Zameer just said outside court as a free man. He thanked his lawyers but he also thanked Canada for not allowing an injustice to happen today.

@TorontoStar Your Honour, this is my client’s 150th bail hearing this year. I know you said at his 149th that he wouldn’t get another chance. But it’s Christmas and he’d like to spend it with his family. Release him. For the kids.

Pierre Poilievre claims 40 offenders were arrested 6,000 times in Vancouver in a year. Is that actually true? #cdnpoli trib.al/YRm13ea
