@osgamer74 The same reason Cap didn’t break his legs jumping out of a skyscraper by landing on the shield. It selectively cancels kinetic energy.

@osgamer74 If it wasn't for the race/class limitations in B/X I would say that is all you would ever need. I blend 1E/2E and try not to think about what's been done to the IP since then. Because it isn't relevant to me.

My friend ran Tomb of Horrors for a group. They got to the green devil face. The famously bad player wants to touch it, but is reminded that it emanates evil. He's going to touch it anyway. Taking pity, the DM further cautions him . . .

@optionalrule True story, bud. My 1e AD&D DM hated 2e AD&D because the “charts are all on the wrong pages.” Give yourself permission to “to share the joy of tabletop RPGs.”

I held off saying this in my first look at the 2024 DnD DMG but I saw this image in it and immediatly though "Man, DnD doesn't know what it is anymore"

@optionalrule Buried spaceships weren’t pictured n older editions of D&D and iron rations are a WW I thing. The game has always had anachronisms.

@ChrisRNegelein it's in the DMG. It's not aimed at the players. If it were aimed at the players, it would be even worse. The DM and players need to work out those details for the tone and style of their game, the DMG trying to establish an assumption of modern shotguns is a disconnect.

Always in search of “the perfect game” for TTRPGs. (I know it doesn’t exist.) Some of my likes: Low fantasy. Gritty, deadly, not goofy or gonzo. Armor as damage reduction. Well supported with lots of tables + tools. Setting not built in to rules. How about you?

@BenoistPoire @Blackmoor_Film Frankly it was one of their most profitable ideas. Giving players ways to say, “this character build lets me do this even if the GM doesn’t like it.” Made 3e books sell like hotcakes.

@Blackmoor_Film WotC continues to feed this weird idea that DM are adversaries to the PC and that the worst of them should therefore be bound by rules ... which makes no sense whatsoever, since the DM adjudicates the rules in the first place. The DM is above the rules, not the other way around.

I saw this new Bastion rule reviewed on a youtube show yesterday. To me it reads like a video game mechanic. It is a safe place where your PC can go sit and wait things out and the DM can't do anything to them while they are in their cradle of safety. it kind of ruins the fun of having players build castles and then a bad guy steals the fighter's favorite sword and everyone goes on a quest to take back the sword. It's kind of anti fun and adventure if the Bastion system is set up as an out of game place for the PC. I'll be curious to hear what exactly it does. At this point it seems like a stopping point between levels like in a video game though. Anyone know more about it? #DnD

Per his LinkedIn page, senior director of communications Greg Tito has departed Wizards of the Coast to become the Deputy Director of External Affairs for the Washington Secretary of State. Tito was a driving force for D&D for years and helped build a very special community.
