Largely agree with Matt’s analysis of the Timbers’ season.
One other bit about the Timbers’ attack: It’s low-key old. Both Mora and Jona will be 32 next year. If they see any regression from them and can’t patch things up with Evander…yiiiiiikes. #RCTID

I’m a bit agnostic about the contract dispute because we have very little visibility into that. And I certainly get why PTFC is steamed about Evander’s comments.
But hard not to nod along with Evander’s point about the apparent comfort with mediocre results in Portland. #RCTID

@ABarnesandnoble I’m a little uncertain about it, but *if* he can develop a little more defensive bite and continue to develop tactically, I think his passing range is really tantalizing as a 6. But probably need to pair him with an 8 who can both be a destroyer and maintain possession.

@ChrisRifer 100% Chris. What profile of player do you think they should target at that position to partner with Ayala? A true defensive replacement to succeed Chara, more of a box to box guy to arrive in the box and supplement the attack?

I think the fairly clear greatest need for the Timbers this offseason is a top-quality 6/8 (depending on where they see Ayala’s fit). That’s a difficult profile to fill, though, with these assets. Going to take some really sharp work from Grabavoy and company. #RCTID

Quick update here, per sources: The Portland Timbers plan to utilize the roster building path of two DPs, four U-22 initiative and $2m GAM (rather than 3 DP/3 U22). So, Timbers don't currently have a DP spot open but do have a U-22 slot open this winter + up to $2m GAM to use.

Gosh darn it if it isn’t my favorite genre of MLS tweet. A team account, after a modest accomplishment (like advancing in a conference quarterfinal without winning even a single game), dragging pundits who made reasonable and yet-to-be-proven-incorrect predictions.
