I mean I think plenty of judges do behave pompously, but does anyone really think “judges are held in extremely high regard by the legal system and wield enormous power within their courtrooms” is a feature unique to the United States?

Like if they had built a new stadium in Miami Gardens/south Broward, ostensibly the most “convenient” spot, do you think hordes will be itching to drive on 95 from the south for a 7pm weeknight game? I drive the opposite way every day. It doesn’t look pleasant

With how sprawled/car-dependent and multipolar South Florida is, I really don’t believe that there’s such a thing as a truly “good” location here for literally anything regional. Anywhere will be inconvenient, maybe even horribly so, for some portion of the population
KG ❄️🏆@ShoutoutKG

The worst location for a baseball stadium, the most inconvenient place to go watch sports in South Florida. Move them to Broward or West Palm Beach and it would be full most games.

so half of twitter will say that doing a short haul flight like this is is appallingly wasteful (and will constantly pretend not to know their purpose) and the other half is appalled at the concept of a really short-haul flight like this being turned into a bus

One thing that perplexes me is that even the NFL seems to be going to this model of balkanizing its product among several different streamers. All the while, I think it became so dominant because there has historically been almost no barrier to entry to watching most of its games
Fox News@FoxNews

CRYING FOUL: A new FOX News poll finds 72% of sports fans think major sporting events should be required to stay on free broadcast television, not behind streaming paywalls. Nearly 6 in 10 sports fans say they’ve skipped watching a game at least a few times in the past year because it was too expensive, while nearly half of fans (47%) say they've skipped games because it was too difficult to find or access them.

@BillyCorben @volvoshine Yes although not particularly safely or intuitively (shocker) unless and until they complete the planned pedestrian bridge to the stadium.
Chris Gothner@Chris_Gothner

@RealMikeSchall @Jarm21 I think technically you can still access it via the Airport station, it's just not a pretty (or especially safe-seeming) route. A quick fix in the meantime would be making the absurd two-sided crosswalk at 21/37 four-sided.

Why does every region, metro area, etc think their people are the only ones who do they "yeah no," "no yeah" thing lol? It's up there with everyone proclaiming their area's weather is uniquely mercurial

@AnthonyClose The bottom line is probably that Pinellas can't sprawl unlike most of FL and contrary to popular conceptions, most Florida/Sun Belt growth really isn't from dense development. Whatever density is being added in St. Pete is probably cancelled out by ever-shrinking household sizes.

Possibly a factor, but Pinellas relies mostly on domestic migration so the issue has to be something more general (like the cost of living/real estate values).

@AnthonyClose Canadians and Euros leaving. Florida has been an "unfriendly" venue even before Trump.

In the American psyche, the single-family home is sacrosanct because it imparts intangible qualities upon its dwellers. A single-family homeowner of one year will have "roots" and a "stake in the community" that even a 20-year condo owner never will.

The cross-partisan belief that multifamily anything is inherently transitional and can never truly be considered a "home" even extends to owner-occupied condos, which is something. Even if you own where you live, even if you have a family there, it can never truly be a "home."

Isn’t this the opposite of what happened though? Houston, SF, Baltimore and DC all moved from suburban/quasi-suburban settings to urban. Even the one team that moved from the city to the suburbs (ATL) didn’t really follow this model.
urbanist slop hq@SlopHq

every baseball stadium built after 1990 is surrounded by forty acres of parking lot that sits empty 280 days a year and we call this "economic development." wrigley is in a neighborhood. fenway is in a neighborhood. the sport was better when the stadiums were to

@Chris_Gothner @RealMikeSchall @Jarm21 It's like a 10 minute walk where you make two turns and follow a side walk the entire time lol I live close by and I will still be using Tri-Rail to get to the stadium, because Hialeah Market Station is right next to me and has free parking.

Inter Miami ha creado un incentivo para que los aficionados que asistan a Nu Stadium utilicen transporte público. Mi recomendación es que saquen ventaja de esta opción. #InterMiamiCF

@cecilbsawgrass @RealMikeSchall @Jarm21 Yes, that's literally the route on my original map. But it's not intuitive. To get people to use transit here you have to make it as seamless and foolproof as possible.
