@theRCN This consultation should include all professional staff working across the NHS in the whole UK. It is well overdue to recognise professional staff who have developed advanced skills and deliver specialist services I hope the CSP are looking at this with interest @thecsp @CSPNI1

@geeky_gillon However, unless the supervision & appraisal process changes to reflect these advances skill sets or indeed we use real time data to demonstrate the exceptional value (financial and outcome based) that ANPs and AHPs provide, sadly nothing will change in the long term

I’m sure there is a productivity, accounting, patient safety, retention benefit from keeping people in roles, as experts in being that role. Just like paramedics - we need excellent ambulance paramedics, progressing in role. Not just moving away to specialist teams.

Better still, AfC should have an overhaul to give greater freedom to recognise excellence. If managers have some on who is excelling in a role & bringing extra to the table, they should be able to move to an “upper” pay scale and get financial rewards.

@geeky_gillon Absolutely agree that AfC does not reward any professional healthcare staff who assume additional responsibilities. ANPs & AHPs can prescribe, inject, request and interpret radiological investigations, just as senior doctors do but get no remunerative recognition of these skills!

@randallsimon @northwoods1980 Other factors incl. age, gender, activity, sports, lifestyle. Physical signs may have included extension pattern of pain. Consider that male skeleton is not fully mature until early twenties, so pars defect are not always that rate & can present as non-specific LBP.
