For the record: ▪️I opposed Russia’s invasion of Crimea in 2014 ▪️I called on FIFA to strip Russia of the 2018 World Cup ▪️I have resolutely supported Ukraine and Ukrainian Mayors since 2022 ▪️I believe the British Right’s closeness to Putin is a risk to our national security

Privatised water is such an obvious scam that it's achieved the impossible: getting 82% of Brits to agree on something. The only issue to score higher was the public’s desire for Tony Blair to stick to retirement.

This really is tone deaf stuff from Blair. The extreme, neoliberal, centre is what’s led to a cost of living crisis, food banks and wider decline in our country, and why people across this country are rejecting it outright. It’s his brand of politics that’s led us to an utterly broken country. It’s crystal clear Tony Blair does not care about the lives of working class people.* And, this intervention definitely does not speak on their behalf He speaks for the billionaire class, vested interests and the status quo with the aim of protecting their wealth and power, much like his great friend Peter Mandelson. His institute are bankrolled by big tech and corporate interests, not the 99% struggling through austerity, insecurity and inequality. They don’t represent ordinary communities nor possess the answers to the problems facing the country in 2026. Time to bow out Tony you have done enough damage.

@JasonGroves1 Yes, reducing his vote from 43.2% to 35.2% was down to taking Polly Toynbee’s advice, was it not?

@ZacGoldsmith Wtf. This is insane from a former MP. Comparing Israel and Nazi Germany is right, and obvious beyond measure.  Nazi Israel is a totalitarian democracy that murdered 145,000 Arabs (two-thirds of Palestinians). #FIFY

Wtf. This is insane from a former MP. Comparing Israel and Nazi Germany is perverse, and idiotic beyond measure.  Nazi Germany was a totalitarian dictatorship that murdered 6m Jews (two-thirds of European Jewry) plus millions of others in industrial death camps like Auschwitz, with explicit genocidal intent via the Final Solution—unprecedented state-sponsored extermination.   Israel, a liberal democracy with Arab citizens comprising 21% of its ~10m population (over 2m with full voting rights, representation in the Knesset, and legal equality), faces existential threats from groups like Hamas whose charter calls for Jewish extermination.   In the ongoing Gaza conflict triggered by Hamas’s Oct 7 massacre (1,200 Israelis killed, hostages taken), even high-end estimates put Palestinian deaths at around 70,000-75,000 over years of urban warfare against embedded terrorists—not industrialized genocide.  Palestinian population in the West Bank and Gaza has exploded nearly 10-fold since 1948 (from ~1.4m to over 5.5m today), making a joke of “genocide” claims.   Israel warns civilians, facilitates aid (despite Hamas diversion), and targets militants—actions of a nation defending itself after the Holocaust, not perpetrating one.  Equating defensive warfare with the regime that built gas chambers is not nuance; it’s blood libel that dishonors actual victims of Nazi evil. How is it possible that this needs explaining to a former MP? It’s revolting

Nearly 4 in 10 British adults have poor financial literacy. Today, we’re publishing major new research into financial literacy in the UK and what we can do to improve it in schools and beyond. Too many people are navigating saving, borrowing and planning for the future without the confidence or knowledge they need, and many associate numbers with anxiety rather than opportunity. The report also found several striking gaps between groups, including women consistently underperforming men on financial literacy across every age group. We’ve got to fix that. thetimes.com/money/family-f…

Should we send workers home when it gets too hot? Kate Bell of the TUC backs a maximum workplace temperature to make employees "safe", but former education secretary Gillian Keegan thinks it will hurt business and "it's not the right way to go". #Newsnight

Labour MPs are preparing to defect to the Greens unless Andy Burnham wins a byelection that will enable him to challenge Keir Starmer for the party leadership, according to a report from the Telegraph. Several backbenchers have been in talks with Green leader Zack Polanski in recent months, but are now reportedly waiting for the outcome of the vote on 18 June in Makerfield, where Burnham is polling first and ahead of Reform UK’s candidate by three points. If Burnham loses, MPs including Clive Lewis and Richard Burgon are prepared to defect, the Telegraph reported, citing unnamed sources. Burnham, currently the mayor of Greater Manchester, is seen by some Labour progressives as a figure who can halt or slow the party’s lurch to the right. But critics say he is unlikely to provide a meaningful alternative, pointing to the fact that he voted for the Iraq war in 2003 and became a member of Labour Friends of Israel in 2015, when he also described the movement to boycott Israel as “spiteful”. During his unsuccessful attempt to win the Labour leadership the same year, he said Israel is the first country he would visit if he won. Last week, the Guardian reported that Burnham would stand behind home secretary Shabana Mahmood’s draconian immigration reforms if he won the leadership, according to his allies.

You Don’t Make the Poor Richer by Making the Rich Poorer – Rupert Lowe SLAMS Labour’s Logic In an age of envy-driven politics, Rupert Lowe cuts through the noise with refreshing clarity: “You don’t make the poor richer by making the rich poorer.” This simple truth exposes the flawed logic that dominates too much of modern British politics. As Lowe explains, the idea that success must be punished for the sake of “fairness” is not compassion, it’s “the sort of maligned logic that Labour employs.” True fairness isn’t about tearing down those who create wealth. It’s about recognising that when people take risks, build businesses, and employ others, “they deserve the reward.” Whether they choose to give generously to charity or pass their hard-earned success to their children, that should be their right, not subject to the whims of the state. The alternative? Handing that money over to “some committee of half-witted idiots” who then decide how best to spend the British people’s earnings. We’ve seen where that leads: waste, inefficiency, and decline. Rupert Lowe’s message is both principled and practical. In a country crying out for economic common sense, his voice stands out. Rupert Lowe is exactly the kind of straight-talking, economically literate leader Britain desperately needs. He will make a great leader one day, hopefully at the next election, helping to Restore Britain to greatness.

Good to see more support for Under16s ban but with accusations some are behind the curve on this issue it’s worth recalling that when the votes were held in the Commons only a hand full of us voted for the ban despite the constant risk of losing the whip. theguardian.com/politics/live/…

BREAKING: Israel just dropped bombs on the Qaraoun Dam in Lebanon’s Beqaa Valley — a key water reservoir serving civilian populations across surrounding villages. This is not a battlefield target. It is a critical water infrastructure. This is an act of genocide.
